New Albury Showcase Meeting Announced For April

Racing NSW today announced that an additional race meeting has been programmed at Albury Racecourse on Thursday, 18 April 2019. The meeting will be a Showcase meeting with $240,000 of prizemoney.

All the prizemoney will be paid by Racing NSW, with Albury Racing Club not being required to contribute any of the prizemoney.

“The addition of a Showcase meeting provides the opportunity for a wide range of trainers and owners in the region to race for prizemoney that would have been paid on Albury Cup Day,” said Racing NSW Chief Executive, Mr Peter V’landys AM.

The programme for the meeting is shown below.

Prizemoney Race Description Distance
$30,000 OPEN HCP 1500m
$30,000 BM 58 HCP 1000m
$30,000 BM 58 HCP 1400m
$30,000 BM 58 HCP 2000m
$30,000 CLASS 3 HCP 1600m
$30,000 CLASS 1 HCP 1175m
$30,000 MAIDEN HCP 900m
$30,000 MAIDEN PLATE 1500m

Racing NSW has abandoned plans to reschedule the Albury Gold Cup race due to the difficulty in finding a suitable date in coming weeks that does not clash with Group 3 races run in Melbourne and Sydney over the Cup distance of 2000m, or upcoming feature races in the Riverina such as the Gundagai Cup and Murrumbidgee Cup at Wagga Wagga.

Accordingly, Racing NSW is distributing the prizemoney for this new race meeting from its own funds.

Racing NSW awaits a final report as to why the Albury track did not drain appropriately in certain areas and will undertake rectification works to ensure suitable drainage is in place in the areas affected.

*Please note the following closing times for the meeting:

Nominations: 11am on Friday 12 April
Acceptances: 9am on Tuesday 16 April
