Neil Evans' Tips For Moruya (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 & Rail True

Race 1 - 1:00PM POPPA JOE MEMORIAL SHOWCASE MAIDEN PLATE (1650 METRES)

10. Ziggy Rose is a progressive mare bred to get further, and seemingly has this at her mercy. Wasn’t far away in two deeper maidens through winter before being turned out, then hit the line impressively from well back returning at Goulburn. The quick back-up is a nice stable pointer, and this is a very moderate lineup. The one to beat. 11. Heligan can improve further fourth-up from a soft draw. 6. Landmark Lady has been up for a while, and still to run a place from eight starts, but will relish coming back from much tougher metropolitan opposition. 12. Hellcat has shown steady improvement in his second prep, and can run into the minor money.

Race 2 - 1:35PM GREG DRISCOLL COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP (1010 METRES)

8. Cando Attitude is a Canberra-based filly by D’Argento, and can make a big impact on debut. Naturally bred to get further, but starts behind a very easy trial, and the Joseph-Jones stable is renowned for getting the new ones ready. Carries a light weight after the jockey’s claim, and will be rushing home. 6. Remy’s Bro is trained on the track, ran home well here on debut, and will likely jump favourite. 5. Ready To Rush is a mare by Better Than Ready on debut behind a forward provincial trial; while 1. Stern Looks, a five-year-old first starter by Astern; and 13. Glenn’s Legacy second-up with blinkers coming off; can both fight for the minor money.

Race 3 - 2:10PM BODALLA PUB COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1010 METRES)

1. Cashbook is lightly raced, and well placed to resume with a bang from a 19 week spell for the shrewd Canberra combination of Todd Smart and Billy Owen. Came off a five week break to sweep clear and claim a feature two-year-old sprint at Scone in late autumn before spelling. Given plenty of time and a recent quiet metro trial, he can put this lot to the sword fresh, and then be aimed at bigger races. 3. Threefold resumes off a much longer break and steady trial. Has plenty of ability, and the stable is also well adept at finding the right races fresh. 2. Boom In The Dark is a threat peaking third-up; while 5. Smashing Lulu first-up since tackling two-year-old metropolitan company in Brisbane; and 7. Commandoro who is honest and trained on the course; both go into wider exotic plays.

How to play it: Cashbook to win

Race 4 - 2:45PM HAPPY 80TH JIMMY MADDEN SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

12. Cheeky Sort is an emerging Kembla-based filly primed to open her account at only her second start. Was well backed before tracking the speed on debut at home but failed to attack the line. Better for that experience and coming back to country level over a furlong further, she’s ready to win. 11. Sacred Inferno is the immediate threat having missed narrowly in two runs to open his career. Winkers go on, and he’s drawn to get a soft run right behind the speed. Be surprised if one of those two don’t win, but include both 6. Holy Hell resuming off a lengthy break, and 8. The Eyes Have It back a shade in distance third-up; it in all trifecta and first fours.

Race 5 - 3:25PM AMH MUSTANG SHOWCASE OPEN HANDICAP (1010 METRES)

3. Take The Rap is another Canberra visitor who finds an ideal race well into the prep, coming back from a deeper Open Federal at home where he was beaten just over two lengths when solid in the market. Had previously been placed in open company at home before beaten less than three lengths in tougher metro BM 72 grade. Drawn to get a midfield trail, and has a 40 percent win rate from 13 starts. 7. Rebel Dean is right in the mix from a soft trailing draw, and coming off a fair closing effort in steeper CL3 Highway company. 8. Sutton Vella comes out of that same Canberra race as the top selection when making good late ground. 6. Cani Cancan is very honest and an each way threat, having not missed a place at the provincials in her last three. 1. Extravagant Lad is an improver second-up after looming in that Canberra feature, and gets some much needed weight relief.

How to play it: Take The Rap to win

Race 6 - 4:05PM TERRACON LEGAL BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

1. Wal’s Angels is a progressive five-year-old who presents as the one to beat staying in the grade. Ran home well in a deeper race when resuming in heavy ground before looked to have the winner on toast at Nowra 12 days ago before being edged out by a head. The rise in trip is a plus, and drawn to get the right trail. 9. Sir Sublime is hard fit with a 3kg weight drop, and can run the quinella after only being collared late in weaker grade here. 2. Fire And Gemstone is over the odds from a low draw. 6. Miss Bariloche is a stablemate of Sir Sublime and finished best to beat him at big odds last start.

How to play it: Wal’s Angels to win

Race 7 - 4:40PM SCB DISTRIBUTORS THE LEGEND OF THE SOUTH (1300 METRES)

5. I Am Lethal is a sparingly raced and provincial-based seven-year-old well placed to strike first-up. Swept home to win a country BM 88 back in autumn before making up a tonne of ground in the feature Town Plate over the Wagga carnival. Comes to hand early in the prep, and resumes off two progressive trials. 1. Cavalier Charles has a stack of ability, and a big market watch returning for his first outing since autumn. 6. Mogo Magic was game in beating all bar the winner in that feature Canberra sprint a fortnight ago, but under the odds here jumping from near the outside in a big field. 8. Associate is a betting watch at big odds resuming with gear changes off a quiet trial; while 11. My Last Hooray can run into the money second-up.

How to play it: I Am Lethal to win

Race 8 - 5:20PM RAY WHITE BATEMANS BAY, MORUYA & ULLADULLA BM58 (1200 METRES)

1. King Taurus comes back in grade from a soft draw, and the big weight has been off-set with a 3kg claimer booked to ride. Surged home to win a better race than this two starts ago after being backed from $2.45 into $2.25. 4. Merchant Reign has won two of his last three against weaker opposition, and while he’s never raced better, looks under the odds against a few of these. 3. Laguna Seca improves third-up over a furlong further. 5. Pushalot is a knockout value chance deep into then prep. 7. Vereeva who is honest and drawn to get cover, and 8. Liquor Talk three weeks after a first-up CL2 win head the rest.

How to play it: King Taurus to win
