Neil Evans' Tips For Grafton (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Heavy 8 and rail out 3m

Race 1 - 1:35PM GRAFTONTICKETS.COM.AU MAIDEN PLATE (1710 METRES)

11. Good Karma is an improving mare who presents over the odds in a tricky race third-up, with the two early fancies being too cramped in the market from wider draws. Dropped out first-up in a tougher provincial race before tracking the speed at Coffs and beaten under a length. Ready for this longer trip, especially with the surface likely to dry out further and get back into soft range. 12. Our Jewel is a progressive Qld mare, and the immediate threat having placed in three from four starts this campaign. 8. Think Of One is an honest provincial performer making the long trip north, and getting an overdue drop in quality. 1. Captain Insano hops the border from the Gold Coast deep into the prep, and can run into the minor money with blinkers coming off again. Gap to the rest.

How to play it: Good Karma to win

Race 2 - 2:10PM BOOK A CHRISTMAS PARTY AT CRJC MAIDEN HANDICAP (1206 METRES)

4. Sugar Road is a lightly raced and improving seven-year-old who can cause a big upset in a very wide and poor quality race, despite drawing wide. Hasn’t done much in two runs back, but this is much thinner, and the extra trip and jockey change are big plusses. Well over the odds around $14.00. 15. Siglo De Oro has been mixing his form in generally deeper company, and while under the odds from a wide draw, he’s fit and the reappearance of near-sided blinkers could spark a better run. 5. Hostile La Vista is a three-year-old by Anders, and big betting watch on debut for the Matthew Dunn stable behind two easy trials. 12. Deodee is an stablemate of the former who can improve third-up with gear changes. 2. Tillstrom on debut in blinkers for the Stirling Osland yard at Armidale off three improving trials; and 7. Need For Spieth resuming off a long break and two progressive trials; are both each-way chances from wide draws.

How to play it: Sugar Road each way

Race 3 - 2:50PM CRJC AGM 12 NOVEMBER MAIDEN PLATE (1006 METRES)

1. Homeland is a locally-trained five-year-old who can resume off a 16 week break with a bang. Was never far away in five runs last campaign against deeper opposition when racing with visors. Tough draw again, but this is also a weak lineup and that piece of gear coming off is a positive sign. Fitted with a solid trial on the track, and the more the course dries out the better placed he is. 2. Rich Star has had two improving runs back, although looms under the odds from a tough barrier. 4. Dandeelion Wishes is a market watch on debut wearing winkers behind a soft trial. 8. Immortal Storm, a first starter trained on the track, and 11. Midwest Princess improving second-up from the inside draw; are the best of the rest.

How to play it: Homeland to win

Race 4 - 3:25PM CRJC CHRISTMAS RACE DAY 30 NOV. C1 (1006 METRES)

4. All Too Wild is an honest provincial mare well placed deep into the prep, dropping down from much tougher provincial opposition. Did her best work late two starts ago behind a smart BM 64 winner before struggling three weeks back in similar company when the track was too hard. Comes back significantly in distance, but this is weaker, and she has enough tactical speed to stay in touch from a handy draw. 2. Mofeed is the immediate threat after four improving runs in better BM 58 company, and given four weeks between runs to off-set a drop in distance. 5. Cutting Edge is a Qld-based four-year-old who can improve second-up; while two other border-hoppers 6. Luvtoknow drawn inside with multiple gear changes, and 7. Platinum Gift down in weight second-up after the jockey’s claim; can both figure in the minor money at good odds.

How to play it: All Too Wild to win

Race 5 - 4:05PM TEAM AIDAN MARKETS @ CRJC 23 NOV. BM66 (1106 METRES)

3. Lovewillcomelater is a lightly raced six-year-old primed to go back-to-back stepping up in class. Dominated from the front at Murwillumbah when off a break, and from a similar draw and map position, he can repeat the dose on his preferred rain-affected ground. 1. Extra Manners is a big betting watch resuming off a domiannt trial win at Coffs. 5. Iobject hasn’t won for a while, but never far away tackling better sprints, and drawn to get a handy trail just off the speed. Gap to the rest headed by 7. Kate's Tiara who reloads three weeks after a fast-finishing and overdue CL3 win at Moree, and 9. Critical Time who held his ground last time behind a smart country sprinter.

How to play it: Lovewillcomelater to win

Race 6 - 4:40PM THE KOSCIUSZKO 18 OCTOBER BM58 (2220 METRES)

7. Amalgamation is terrific value in a very wide and open staying affair, back in grade fourth-up from a softer trailing draw. Came off two runs over the border to hit the line from further back at Lismore, and the extra trip is ideal. Can settle around midfield with cover, and only needs a clear crack at them from the 400m at good odds. 9. Suit Day is another underrated runner having shown solid improvement in consecutive BM 66 runs at Tamworth. 10. Beta Better is an improving Gold Coast mare more than ready for this bigger test off two solid wins either side of the border, and blinkers are back on. 1. Justice Served is drawn wide, but comes off a fighting win in deeper grade at Lismore well into the prep. Keep safe 2. Viadelamore who is hard fit and made up plenty of ground behind the former in that Lismore race just 10 days ago. 3. Hurricane Rosie 19 days after an improving CL1 win at Ipswich, 5. Quick Buck taking on a deeper field behind back-to-back wins here, and Gold Coast mare 6. Giddy Gan’s Joy back in grade and drawn the fence; can all add plenty of value to trifecta and first fours.

How to play it: Amalgamation to win

Race 7 - 5:15PM TABULAM CUP 4 OCTOBER C1 HANDICAP (1410 METRES)

1. Master Artist is an improving four-year-old best suited here in another wide open race with a stack of chances. Bolted in his maiden at this track from off speed in winter before two fair efforts in Qld up to tougher BM 65 level. Ridden much quieter and ht the line in a CL1 here four weeks ago after being backed from $5.50 into $4.40. Will again settle back from this draw, and is at his best on rain-affected ground. 3. Vendemmia is an improver who charged home to land his maiden here third-up. 4. Patrioticintention gave nothing else a chance from the front in winning his maiden at Lismore 11 days ago, and drawn to lead again. 7. Risk For Reward can improve further off a handy closing effort at Coffs; while 11. Beautiful Jo is another last-start maiden winner, and the best of the rest.

How to play it: Master Artist to win
