Longmires Chasing Christmas 'Cash & Sash' (Goulburn, Friday)

It's been all 'cash and sash' of late for the Goulburn training team of Emma & Lucy Longmire with four winners from their last seven runners.

The stable turns its attention to home surrounds on Friday looking to continue the recent red hot trot with exciting prospect Cash Is Queen.

The twins have the promising Cash Is Queen ($4 favourite on TAB) engaged in Race 3, the Ray White Country Boosted B58 Hcp over 1000m, the daughter of Astern having a breakout campaign since returning from a spell.

She has carved out back-to-back wins over short course trips confirming her early posturing from a limited winter campaign.

Trainer Emma Longmire isn't surprised by what she's doing this time in.

"She has always showed she had ability right from her first pace work on the grass at home," Ms Longmire said.

Cash Is Queen has taken luck out of the equation at her past two starts in sparkling on pace victories at Moruya then Albury.

"It’s quite exciting to have a filly who is able to do that - she is big and strong and there is only one way to ride her."

The stable says Plan A is to keep riding her that way: "We don’t know if she will ever change her pattern, but aren’t too concerned as that is a great strength of hers."

The things many owners hope for in a galloper are what's impressing the stable right now.

"She’s just a natural, has brilliant speed and she has continued to improve. She’s still putting it together."

Apprentice Molly Bourke retains the ride on Cash Is Queen after counting the clock superbly in the filly's front running victory at Albury last start.

"Molly is riding particularly well and more than happy to keep her on, she rated her very well last start, gave excellent feedback and gets the handy claim in the country."

The well-travelled Bourke has got into Christmas spirit of late banking seven winners to date in December around the Southern Districts.

Whatever the filly does on Friday connections now know they have some confirmed promise (and cash) banked and barned for Christmas!

The stable will also be looking to rollover a potential good result Friday into similar on Saturday. They have last start country winner Mittata ($11) heading to the TAB Highway Handicap at Royal Randwick over 1400m, the stable confident he can show more of his best at headquarters.

"Mittata is full of confidence after his last start win and deserves another try in a Highway. He gets a valuable claim with Amy McLucas riding him at 52kg."

Friday's race meeting will be a bittersweet one for the club with the running of the 13th edition of the Fred Cooper Cup over a mile. This year will be the first running of the race without Fred's presence (he passed away in August).

At last head count the club legend was survived by 17 nieces and nephews ... so anyone looking for an omen tip in Fred's race could do worse than last start winner 'Nieces and Nephews' ($3.20 favourite) trained by regular Goulburn visitors, the Joseph & Jones stable.

Goulburn's track is currently rated a Soft 5 with Race 1 set to go at 1.35pm on Friday.
