With strong chances peppered through the day, Neil Godbolt is looking skyward for divine intervention as the prominent local trainer attacks Camden Haven Cup Day at Port Macquarie on Saturday.
As a massive amount of rain descended on the circuit in the days leading up to one of the club’s feature meetings, officials are hoping for a break in the weather to make full use of the excellent drainage facilities since the successful reconstruction of the course proper.
The race meeting going ahead would present great appeal for the Godbolt stable with the reappearance of Khant Fail in the opening event following an encouraging recent effort.
The mare’s third behind Ultimate Reign at Port was her first appearance since relocating from the John Sargent stable and should derive great benefit from the outing after showing speed on the heavy track.
The daughter of Mongolian Khan has strong performances on rain affected ground when previously in work will be at the head of discussions in the race with Quick Buck providing a strong challenge after finishing just behind Khant Fail in the same event last start.
Trainer Neil Godbolt.
Sporting a famous set of colours which have been carried to success by many fine horses over the years, the expertise and polish of Neil Godbolt and a series of esteemed owners, including the Steve Keir Akubra Hats generation, Khant Fail is set to thrive for the assignment.
The Simple Life is the stable representative for the second event and comes into calculations following a solid second behind the well credentialed, Kings Cup, at the mare’s first run from a nine-week break.
The effort by the daughter of star Japanese racehorse, Satono Aladdin, indicated success was well within reach with Mystic Way and Kermalicious set to provide the stiffest opposition to the chances of The Simple Life.
It is significant that Godbolt has engaged the services of Jett Newman for his two early gallopers with the promising young apprentice really making a name for herself in the early stages of her career.
Heart of Platinum rounds out the chances for the leading trainer in the fourth event on the card and deserves to break back into the winner’s circle after strong placings over the past couple of months.
The Camden Haven Cup has assembled an evenly graded field with Just One Look representing value after being just claimed by Savoca in a similar event at Tamworth last start.
The John Cooper trained mare has a distinct liking for rain affected going and the services of Matt McGuren in the pilot roll should ensure a forward showing after the leading hoop landed a recent Taree double.
Orsum has a great affinity for the Port circuit and the heavy racing conditions are an asset in this event while La Cache A Vin and Bush Warrior should be considered strong hopes.
The Port Macquarie Race Club is delighted to present the Camden Haven Cup and greatly appreciate the support of the local community together with the sponsorship provided by Club North Haven.
