John Schell's Tips For Scone (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 1:25PM YARRAMAN PARK COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

4. Toranaga is a Maurice gelding on debut for trainer Todd Howlett, and he comes into this on the back of a trial in which he finished second in at this track. He’s drawn awkwardly with Ashley Morgan to ride and looks to have the talent to make an impact. 11. Pinot Nero is yet to be placed from four starts but hasn’t been too far away in either of his two runs either side of a spell. 8. Dreymon resumed from a spell with a second at Wyong when hitting the line well and followed that up with a last start fifth at Newcastle when again working home in strong style. 1. The Contractor was placed at Dubbo when resuming and has since finished fourth and fifth in two runs at Bathurst and Dubbo. He has place claims here.

How to play it: Toranaga WIN.

Race 2 - 2:05PM VINERY STUD COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Smart Buy had finished second in three of her first five starts before breaking through with a maiden win at this track last time out when hitting the line well as favourite. She looks promising and can go on with the job. 1. Empress Tsarina enjoyed a good run before winning her maiden at this track last week in dominant fashion. She only needs to run up to that to be hard to hold out again. 3. Major Lightning won with ease in maiden company at Warren when last produced and is worth plenty of thought again, while 7. On The Quiet has been safely held in two runs back from a spell but is set to peak.

How to play it: Smart Buy WIN.

Race 3 - 2:40PM MITTY'S CG&E MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

6. Autumn King is a well-bred colt on debut and has won both his trials at this track in preparation. He looks set to make a winning debut. 10. Iniesta was well in the market on debut on the Kensington track at Randwick but failed to beat a runner home. He is worth another chance here. 7. Disparate ran fourth on debut at Hawkesbury when not beaten far and is worth another chance, while 3. Sheriff’s Star has been placed in four of nine starts and resumes after a Canterbury trial win.

How to play it: Autumn King WIN.

Race 4 - 3:20PM COLOURWORKS F&M MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

11. Redolent is a filly on debut and has had two trials to prepare for this. She’s finished fourth in each of them and hasn’t been beaten far in each of them. 9. Nepo Baby is also on debut and has had three trials including two handy recent hitouts. A bold showing is on the cards. 8. Miss Fleetwood has been safely held in two runs either side of a spell and is capable of improving. 6. Anotherbaddecision ran third at this track on debut and is not out of this.

How to play it: Redolent EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:55PM SCONE RSL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

9. Social Circle debuted at Quirindi in February and justified odds-on favouritism to score. She’s had two trials leading into this return to racing and should be primed to score another victory. 3. Savethebesttillast won two of his latest three starts at Tamworth before being spelled and has had two trials in preparation for his return to racing. 5. Edge Of Midnight has run well in both runs since resuming and should run well again. 7. Quick Sharp has a win and two placings from five starts and resumes here after a recent third in a four-horse trial at this track.

How to play it: Social Circle WIN.

Race 6 - 4:35PM SELECT EVENTS BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Dale is a talented galloper that won a couple on end last campaign before a seventh in a Randwick Highway and then being spelled. He resumed with a second at Muswellbrook before breaking through with another victory at the same track when last produced. 9. Release Point ran home well when a resuming second at this track before doing the job well to score a last start Tamworth victory when hitting the line well. He can go on with the job. 9. Another Peach had a strong of placings before breaking her maiden when scoring at Grafton during the Ramornie carnival. She followed that up with a dominant Tamworth win when leading throughout and is worth including among the main chances. 11. Sweet Bubbles hit the line well for a last start second at this track and can figure prominently again.

How to play it: Dale WIN.

Race 7 - 5:10PM INGLIS CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

11. Girrawheen was midfield at this track when beaten less than a length before scoring in good style at Dubbo as favourite. He followed that up with a solid fourth at Tamworth when taking on handy opposition and he’s drawn ideally here in gate two. 9. Where’stheprofit won his first two starts in September of last year and finished fourth in his next two runs. He won two trials before resuming with a second at this track on August 19 and should figure prominently again. 10. Fetes Des Meres was in great form winning three of four starts in country grade races before a last start eighth in a Highway at Rosehill. This looks an easier assignment. 4. River Pat has been placed in two of his four runs since resuming and looks set to run well again in this.

How to play it: Girrawheen EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (2) Smart Buy.
Race 6 (1) Dale.

Best Value:
Race 7 (11) Girrawheen.
