John Schell's Tips For Scone (Friday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 2:10PM WARBURTON ESTATE AGENTS MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

6. Haras had two trials before debuting at this track earlier in the month and running well when finishing third in a close finish. She’s in a small field here and looks to have plenty of upside and should have derived benefit from the debut performance. 8. Tipsy Miss is having her first race start having had two trials earlier in the year and another two recent trials. She defeated Haras in a trial before a midfield effort in her latest hitout. 7. Shenandoah River ran second in her first two race starts at Muswellbrook either side of a spell and was midfield here last time out after racing on the speed and weakening. She’s worth another chance. 4. Chappolicious ran third at Dubbo when on debut for the new stable and is worth plenty of thought again.

How to play it: Haras WIN.

Race 2 - 2:45PM COLOURWORKS CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2200 METRES)

3. My Greek God won at Newcastle when third-up from a spell and then ran third at Kembla Grange at his latest start. He is racing well enough to give this a shake. 7. Saintly Sands has only missed a place once from eight starts and ran third here when last produced. 4. Recovery Road battled on well for a last start placing at Coonamble, while 1. Final Impact ran well when finishing second at Orange at his latest start and is not out of this.

How to play it: My Greek God WIN.

Race 3 - 3:20PM ARROWFIELD COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

9. Bird Whistle won a trial before debuting at this track in July and doing the job well to score a strong win. She’s had two more trials leading into this resuming run and has looked good in each of them. 6. Ellofadude won in good style at Tamworth on debut and backed that up with a solid Port Macquarie placing. 1. Favour The Bold resumed from a spell with a dead-hear win at this track and is bound to run well again, while 3. Chica Del Mar was just behind the placings at Port Macquarie when last produced.

How to play it: Bird Whistle WIN.

Race 4 - 4:00PM WARBURTON ESTATE AGENTS SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

Rustemo resumed with a Port Macquarie placing, while 11. Spicy Surprise is a Tagaloa colt on debut after three solid trials and bears close watching. 2. Tuncurry hasn’t been too far away in each of three runs back from a spell and has place claims.

How to play it: Mortal Halo WIN.

Race 5 - 4:40PM WARBURTON ESTATE AGENTS MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

7. Regal Problem had two starts in May and June for a debut second at Hawkesbury before a sixth at Canterbury when far from disgraced. She resumes here after two trials and won the latest of them at Newcastle. 4. Just Response ran third at Newcastle in June at his only start and has won two trials in preparation for this. 2. English Conqueror was placed on debut at Kembla Grange and then ran fourth at the same track. 5. Logan Downs debuted with a fourth at Newcastle after leading and can improve here.

How to play it: Regal Problem WIN.

Race 6 - 5:20PM DARLEY BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (900 METRES)

1. Navy Steel resumes here and is a winner of two of six starts. He followed a Muswellbrook win with a close second at Inverell before being spelled and is primed to sprint well fresh here. 3. Kantishna fought on well to finish third here two starts ago and then ran another good race to be second at Muswellbrook last time out. Another bold showing is expected. 6. Tears For Fears resumes for a new stable and was placed at Nowra and Kembla Grange before the break. 5. Super Freds wasn’t beaten far at Taree at his latest start and isn’t out of this.

How to play it: Navy Steel WIN.

Race 7 - 5:55PM COLOURWORKS BENCHMARK 82 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Bestower doesn’t win out of turn with two wins from 20 starts, but she also has 10 minor placings. She hit the line well when fourth at Warwick Farm when resuming and can bounce back to winning form here. 1. Rhythm Is A Dancer was a Mudgee winner three starts back and was placed at Dubbo when last produced. 7. Tainui disappointed at Coonamble last time out but raced well before that and can improve, while 6. Jacenza is talented at best and wasn’t beaten far at his latest start.

How to play it: Bestower WIN.

Race 8 - 6:30PM COOLMORE BENCHMARK 82 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

4. Dances With Hooves is a classy performer that resumed from a spell and hit the line well to finish second at Dubbo. She should have taken benefit from that assignment and can go on with the job in this. 10. Cool Storm won well when resuming at this track and has since finished sixth in a Highway before a third at Newcastle. 8. Saratoga Power is shooting for three straight wins and shouldn’t be underestimated. 2. Zoe Shark is a consistent performer that has been racing well since resuming and is well worth including among the main chances again.

How to play it: Dances With Hooves EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 3 (9) Bird Whistle.
Race 4 (8) Mortal Halo.

Best Value:
Race 8 (4) Dances With Hooves.
