John Schell's Tips For Port Macquarie (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 11:20AM CHRIS HUDSON ELECTRICAL MAIDEN PLATE (1108 METRES)

1. Beebee resumes here from a lengthy spell. He’s been placed in two of four starts and has had a trial in preparation for this in which he was well beaten last month. He’s shown enough talent in his races to be considered a chance here. 3. Montgolfier has been placed in each of his latest two starts and is drawn to get the run of the race. 10. Mars Landing has finished fourth in each of his three starts and is worth including among the main chances. 11. Velka ran fourth on debut at Muswellbrook and is not out of this.

How to play it: Beebee WIN.

Race 2 - 11:55AM WAUCHOPE DRAGON FLYS 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1208 METRES)

4. Spandex ran second here in January before a spell. He’s had two trials to prepare for this return to racing and should be hard to hold out. 3. Namara finished fourth at Hawkesbury when resuming and is primed to run well again in this. 1. Star Prediction ran well when a last start second at Muswellbrook and should be thereabouts again. 2. Piccaderro has been placed in three of five start and can make an impact.

How to play it: Spandex WIN.

Race 3 - 12:35PM COFFEE ON HIGH SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1512 METRES)

1. Not My Problem resumed from a spell with a fifth at Gunnedah when not beaten too far. She’s been placed in three of five starts and is one of the leading hopes here. 12. Éclair Dancer ran second at this track last time out and although soundly beaten he has a chance here from the good draw. 9. Cluster’s General is a last start Grafton placegetter with solid claims here, while 4. I Alone was placed at Taree when last produced and has place claims again in this.

How to play it: Not My Problem WIN.

Race 4 - 1:15PM HLW PROJECTS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1208 METRES)

8. The Young Years is fresh for this having not raced since April. She’s drawn the inside gate here and should get a soft run and be finishing off strongly. 1. Aye Aye Skipper was a winner at Grafton two starts ago and then was a close-up fourth at Casino after leading. He can give plenty of cheek again here. 7. Love Rat has been racing well with two wins from his last three starts. Another bold showing is on the cards. 9. Fools Play has a good overall record, and warrants thought.

How to play it: The Young Years EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 1:55PM VILIFIED AT BAINSBRIDGE FARM CLASS 1 (1208 METRES)

6. I Am Convincing has only won the one race but has had a number of placings and is drawn to get the run of the race from the rails alley here. 4. Wee Kahuna won at Grafton in July of last year and had two more runs before being spelled. He resumes here after a solid recent trial. 2. Whispering Rupert is a last start winner that has Aaron Bullock aboard. 5. Beach Princess wasn’t too far away in her three recent runs, and she is fresh for this after a couple of months off the scene.

How to play it: I Am Convincing EACH WAY.

Race 6 - 2:35PM WAUCHOPE BLUES SHOWCASE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1208 METRES)

1. Aged Care has a good record with a win and three placings from six starts. He ran well at Scone at his latest start and will find this easier. 2. Punch One Out won a maiden at this track three starts ago and his two runs since have been sound. 3. Whispering Muriel won her maiden at this track and is far from the worst here, while 10. Risk Assessment has ability and can be placed.

How to play it: Aged Care WIN.

Race 7 - 3:10PM PORT CITY GLASS CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1512 METRES)

6. Oakfield Peewee has been huge odds in his recent two runs but didn’t run too bad at his latest outing at Hawkesbury. He’s drawn well here with Aaron Bullock to ride. 3. Mr Plume resumed with a solid effort at Moree after almost a year away from racing. 4. Supreme Command finished second at Muswellbrook last time out in a solid effort, while 8. All Too Rosey was a close second at Taree at her latest start.

How to play it: Oakfield Peewee EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 3:45PM WAUCHOPE RSL CLUB WAUCHOPE CUP (1512 METRES)

3. Inferencia won well in Midway grade at Rosehill in March and that followed a strong Newcastle victory. She was close up when third at Muswellbrook last time out and has solid claims here. 5. Cenotes was midfield at Casino last time out and is set to improve on that here. 1. Russian Roni was down the track in the Gunnedah Cup but can lift on that, while 7. Casirina has been racing well and can get into the placings.

How to play it: Inferencia EACH WAY.

Race 9 - 4:20PM M&S PRINT WAUCHOPE SPRINT (1008 METRES)

5. Dis Is Heaven won well at Tuncurry three starts ago. He has since finished third at Warwick Farm before a last start second at Casino. This looks a nice race for him. 9. Buck Pharoah hit the line well for a last start third at Taree and warrants thought again on the strength of that effort. 3. The Wolf accounted for Dis Is Heaven at Casino last time out and is one of the leading chances, while 2. Time For Victory won well two starts ago at Taree and can bob up without surprising.

How to play it: Dis Is Heaven WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 6 (1) Aged Care.
Race 9 (5) Dis Is Heaven.

Best Value:
Race 8 (3) Inferencia.
