John Schell's Tips For Gundagai (Friday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:00PM TUMBLONG HILLS MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

11. Dancing Mumma was close-up in a Goulburn trial before making her debut with a third at Nowra. She raced on the speed in that event and held on well enough and she should have derived benefit from the hitout. She is worth plenty of thought in this. 12. Silver Serenade has had two starts for a third at Moruya and another third at Goulburn and has had a trial since the latest start to be kept up to the mark for this. 9. Speed Of Thought has been placed in two of four starts and looms as a place chance again here. 6. Treasure Hunter has been placed in both starts and beat home Dancing Mumma when they last clashed.

How to play it: Dancing Mumma WIN.

Race 2 - 1:35PM CRITERION HOTEL SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1180 METRES)

2. Escargoes had three starts earlier in the year and was placed in two of them at Gosford and Newcastle. He failed to fire at Newcastle before being spelled and has had two trials in preparation for this return, winning the latest of them. 1. Uncle Barry hit the line well when finishing third at Kembla Grange when last produced and should get the run of the race from the inside gate. 7. Yes Maxi is on debut after two jumpouts and is poised to run well despite the wide alley. 13. Homeward was placed at Kilmore when last produced and has claims with a repeat of that effort.

How to play it: Escargoes WIN.

Race 3 - 2:10PM TAB CLASS 1 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

10. Hip Hip Ole was stepping out for her second race start when going to the front and doing the job well to score a Wagga win. She can figure again here if she can run up to that effort. 8. Amanoah was having her first run for a new stable when breaking through with a last start Queanbeyan win and warrants thought again on the strength of that effort. 9. Darn Deadly resumed from a spell with a fourth at Queanbeyan and is worth another chance in this. 6. Rotho Bro was placed on the Beaumont track at Newcastle when last produced and is not out of this.

How to play it: Hip Hip Ole WIN.

Race 4 - 2:45PM THANK YOU LEN TOZER BM58 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

10. Azzucca was a maiden winner at Wagga back in September and has since finished second in both subsequent starts at Canberra and the Sapphire Coast. She should make an impact again while in her current form. 12. The Eyes Have It won well at Nowra when last produced and can give plenty of cheek again. 4. Snowy finished second at Canberra at her latest start and can be thereabouts again. 1. Slush Fund has been racing well and can show up despite the wide barrier.

How to play it: Azzucca EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:20PM PATRIOT BLOODSTOCK CLASS 3 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1180 METRES)

2. Lambay resumed from a spell with a Goulburn placing before taking on Highway grade in town without success. This is an easier assignment and a bounce back to form is expected. 6. Ischyros finished sixth at Randwick in tougher grade when last produced and is worth plenty of thought here. 7. Taluk was placed at Corowa at her last start and can be thereabouts again. 8. Divazou won at Albury two starts ago and can figure prominently again with a repeat of that.

How to play it: Lambay WIN.

Race 6 - 4:00PM BELLETTE’S BINS THE TUCKERBOX (1000 METRES)

5. One Hard Lady was a Moonee Valley winner on October 3 and then had a jumpout before finishing second at Moonee Valley at her latest start. She has a great record with four wins and two seconds from seven starts and is the horse to beat in this. 9. Outback Angel was close-up when finishing second at Bathurst at her latest start and can be in the finish again. 12. Sutton Vella followed a Cootamundra win with a last start fourth at Canberra and has place claims, while 4. Hulm ran last at Moonee Valley last time out but will find this easier.

How to play it: One Hard Lady WIN.

Race 7 - 4:40PM XXXX GOLD SNAKE GULLY CUP (1400 METRES)

**BIG DANCE ELIGIBILITY**

3. Money Team ran well when third at Eagle Farm when resuming from a spell and then backed that up with a strong Warwick Farm victory. He since finished fourth at Randwick and is racing well enough to give this a shake from the good barrier. 2. Cavalier Charles is classy at best and was just behind the placings in both runs either side of a spell. He looks suited in this grade and bears close watching. 9. Ticklebelly ran well when placed at Randwick when last produced and has the class to give this a shake. 8. Belleistic Kids hasn’t been disgraced in city grade races of late and is worth thought.

How to play it: Money Team WIN.

Race 8 - 5:20PM GUNDAGAI REGIONAL FUNERALS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

4. Made Easy went to the front on debut at Wagga and gave nothing else a chance when scoring a strong win. There’s no reason he can’t go on with the job. 6. Dee Dee Express has a win and two second placings from just three starts and warrants respect. 9. Ready To Rush was a debut winner at Cootamundra before a second at the Sapphire Coast. 11. Extrio won at Canberra when last produced and can show up again.

How to play it: Made Easy WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 5 (2) Lambay.
Race 7 (3) Money Team.

Best Value:
Race 4 (10) Azzucca.
