Jockey Quotes - Country Championships Final

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $500,000 Newhaven Park Country Championships Final (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Nick Heywood (Another One): “They always say about timing and obviously last year was the same sort of time and buffer. He’s a better horse this prep and his work at home and everything like that has just been phenomenal. I knew he’d get through the track.”

“Full credit to Gary Colvin and his team, they look after this horse like their own son and he paid off for all the owners here today.”

“He put a dip in around the 800 there and once I clicked him back up and put him back on the bridle, I just had a lap full of horse. When you’re on a heavy track and you can pick back up, you’re going to be in with a chance of winning.”

Nash Rawiller (Commando Hunt): “Gee he did a good job. Well set for the race.”

Hugh Bowman (Amulet Street): “Delighted with him. Really proud of his effort. Did dare to dream at the 300m. Full credit to the winner.”

Jean Van Overmeire (Testator Silens): “Thought he ran very well. Didn’t lose any respect for him.”

Aaron Bullock (Edit): “Travelled terrific. Had his chance. The winner followed him the whole race. As soon as I let him down his wheels were spinning.”

Tom Sherry (Anethole): “Huge run. The barrier got us beat. Attacked the line really well.”

Craig Williams (Tap 'N' Run): “He had the right preparation for that. The right form reference. Just not effective on the heavy ground.”

Jordan Mallyon (To The Nines): “Just got left in front. We were hoping for a few to follow. It all happened a bit quick for him.”

Matthew Cahill (Lockdown Gamble): “Nice even run. Probably should have finished a bit closer.”

Tommy Berry (Zoukina): “I feel sick for the connections. Never had a crack at them all the way down the straight.”

Cejay Graham (Little Prophet): “Probably wasn’t ready for this type of a task. Maybe up to it next year.”

Alysha Collett (How's It Kev): “Ran above expectations today.”
