Hawkesbury & Scone Race Meetings - Air Quality Update (Thursday)

Level 2 Hot Weather Policy

Racing NSW Stewards advise that, with the predicted top temperatures of 38 to 39 degrees for tomorrow’s Hawkesbury and Scone race meetings, Level 2 of the Racing NSW Hot Weather Policy has been invoked. The following processes will be implemented:

  • Parades will be shortened
  • Ice water machines will be located in mounting enclosure and horse stall area
  • Misting sprays will be operating in horse stall areas
  • Stewards will be sympathetic to overweight applications for jockeys requiring to re-hydrate

Stewards advise that horses are still required to be on course 90 minutes before the scheduled starting time of each race, to allow time to acclimatise and settle after travelling.

Air Quality Monitoring

Racing NSW has received advice from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment that tomorrow's air quality for Sydney is predicted to be poor (no other forecasts are available), but not in the very poor or hazardous range.

Racing NSW Stewards will monitor the morning air quality readings for both the Hawkesbury and Scone regions and provide an update in respect to the conditions should they deteriorate or become unsuitable for racing.
