Grafton's Influence On The Kosciuszko

By Michael Beattie

With the final countdown now on for The Kosciuszko on Saturday it is time to have look at just how racing in Grafton has impacted on this year's event.

As most people are aware Grafton and the Clarence River Jockey Club will always be intrinsically linked to The Kosciuszko via the feats of the John Shelton-trained Belflyer which won the inaugural running of the race in 2018.

Whilst Grafton does not have a trained started in The Kosciuszko in 2024, its impact on the race has arguably never been greater.

Of the final field of 14 runners for The Kosciuszko this year six of the field has won at Grafton.

Of these at least two made their way to the July Carnival in 2024 in an effort to showcase their ability and keep them in The Kosciuszko spotlight.

The winning Grafton runners are:

Compelling Truth, Kirby July 2024
Cavalier Charles, Belflyer July 2024
Tribeca Star, NRRA CC Qualifier February 2024
At Witz End, March Hare, March 2024
Tanglewood, Showcase Hcp, July 2023
Far Too Easy, NRRA CC Qualifier February 2022, Springboard To Fame, July 2021.

Good luck to all connections and slot holders!
