Goulburn Attracts A Wide Range Of Guests (Today)

Be it Wagga, Warwick Farm, Hawkesbury, Randwick, Bathurst, Canberra, Kembla Grange or just down the road, they've come from everywhere to fill eight races at Goulburn today.

The program carries a bit of everything with two country boosted races, The Goulburn Post Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1300m) and The Worklocker Goulburn Class 2 Country Boosted Hcp (1500m) complementing some strong free for all maiden and benchmark opportunities on the card.

The meeting is part of a strong program of winter racing in the tablelands that culminates with this year's $200,000 Goulburn Cup, which has a found a new home on the racing calendar, Sunday 25th August.

Goulburn Race Club CEO Robyn Fife says it's great to see such cross regional support for today's meeting which she hopes will be replicated for their new Cup date.

"There are horses accepted for Friday from at least eight or nine different locations across country, provincial and metropolitan clubs," Ms Fife referenced.

"Our amended Goulburn Cup date is now just nine weeks away and we'd love to see similar representation from such a variety of stables as we have today.

"The Goulburn Cup program remains a country showcase prizemoney event with the $200,000 feature also offering sought after Big Dance Eligibility status.”

Jockey Heavelon Van Der Hoven (or ‘heavy’ for short!) is representative of the strong out of town contingent at Goulburn today with two rides for the Annabel Neasham stable.

He starts the day with Junebug ($2.50 on TAB) in Race 1, The Complete Plumbing Solutions Class1 & Maiden Plate over 2145m.

"l'll say it’s my best for the day. Last start we tried to go forward and didn't have the speed."

“She was three deep no cover but let down good later, I think this distance will be perfect," Van der Hoven offered.

‘Heavy’ will also look to help progress the development of the Neasham-trained Shelstein ($2 favourite) in Race 7, The Brad Writer Constructions Maiden Plate (1300m).

The two-year-old colt was close-up in a promising city debut and has had three weeks between runs. The TAB market hasn’t missed the outing either agreeing with the hoop’s “think he can win”.

Friday's card also suggests punters won't find a better placed horse anywhere in Australia this week than Incarcerated who of course lobs into Goulburn town (think supermax!) for his debut outing!

The Gerald Ryan-Stirling Alexiou trained three-year-old gelding has shown talent at the trials and is a $2.90 second elect in Race 4, The Goulburn Mulwaree Council Maiden Hcp over 1000m.

Goulburn's track is currently rated a Soft 7 for Friday's program with Race 1 timed to go at 12pm.
