Gallagher Out To Keep Good Times Rolling (Dubbo Friday)

By Tony Megahey

Recently relocated jockey Clayton Gallagher, amidst his finest season yet, continues his successful combination with regional premiership trainer Brett Thompson as well as select rides at big value for other stables at Dubbo’s Friday TAB meeting.

Gallagher, who has moved from Nyngan to ride out of Dubbo, has a near full book throughout a capacity nine-race programme.

“The move cut my travelling time by a lot of hours, it was getting too tiring, Dubbo is central and offers more opportunities with the bigger stables,” offered Gallagaher who has won 87 races in the past 12 months with a super 18pc winning strike rate and 46pc placings.

“Nice to be on a bit of a roll, tough day with big fields but I’ve got live chances; Brett’s are always well placed and I’m on runners for Damien Lane and Brett Robb I think will run well.”

Clayton was referring to Lane’s Miss Amari, an Animal Kingdom filly who will be lengthy odds in a Something Borrowed (2016) Maiden (1300m).

“When Damien brings one out here from Wyong you can guarantee they’re well placed; first up but had a trial, placed twice last prep and drawn,'' he said.

Clayton is also upbeat about Legal Zou in a Good Host (2018) Class 1, 1200m for Brett Robb who is having an outstanding season since moving to Dubbo from Nyngan.

“I rode this gelding in a really impressive maiden win last prep, I’ve been riding it in work, given me a good feel, fitter two runs back and a trial and drawn inside.”

With numerous regional meetings washed out, Dubbo has capacity acceptances for nine races with maximum fields and emergencies.

They have missed most of the bad weather and race on a soft 6 in fine weather.

“We could get an upgrade, at work the track has been playing perfect,” Clayton adds.
