Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST BET: Race 6 # 4 – RED CARD

She fits a favourable Rosehill 1100m profile and looks primed to produce a career peak figure in this event. The Godolphin galloper had the perfect run first-up, but she ran time, and all key indicators suggest she can only step off that performance. Further, she has trialled well between runs, winning a recent heat at Hawkesbury in style. The mare is undefeated at this track/distance, maps to control the pace of the race, has the key asset of acceleration and has multiple winning figures. Happy to mark her favourite and expect her to take some catching.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST BET: Race 8 # 1 – ZOUGOTCHA

She’s back to her best and was always in control when winning the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) first-up at Rosehill Gardens. The Chris Waller runner had every chance, but she sprinted hard, went through the line full of energy, and there was plenty of merit in the back end of the clock. Further, the margin to third confirmed the quality and the runner-up, Lady Laguna, subsequently went on to win a Group 1. She only has to reproduce that rating to win; she’s a winner at the track/distance, and James McDonald rides from a soft gate.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – NEXT BEST: Race 4 # 7 – GATSBY’S

He’s an exciting colt who was impressive, winning on debut at Canterbury 22 days ago. Further, he showed adaptability, acceleration and maintained a strong finishing speed to the line to score. He ran slick time relative to the night, even after adjusting for track deterioration, class, age, and additional factors. Additionally, that form has since been confirmed with a subsequent winner and placegetter. The Chris Waller galloper maps to have all favours, James McDonald sticks, and he can only improve.

COONAMBLE – COUNTRY PICK: Race 5 # 9 – PEONY SURPRISE

Expecting her to improve sharply second-up stepping out to a more suitable trip. The mare was 36 days between runs last start at Dubbo, was outsprinted, but she built momentum, and her last few bounds had merit when finishing fifth. Further, that race rated highly relative to the day and a form reference that can be trusted. She can settle closer from the inside draw, the dry track suits where she produces her peak figures and will relish the 1400m. Hard to beat with even luck.
