Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST BET: Race 7 # 6 – LADY LAGUNA

Keen to stick with the in-form mare who is in career-best form, and she produced a peak figure last start when winning the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m). The mare was suited to sitting outside the leader in a very slow pace, but she was always in control and recorded the fastest closing splits of the meeting. The five-year-old is proven on all surfaces, can sprint off slow/fast tempos and brings the all-important fitness edge. In addition, expect Tyler Schiller to be aggressive early, and she brings a dominant last-start figure.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – NEXT BEST: Race 1 # 14 – SMART LEGEND

The Les Bridge-trained galloper is ready to peak third-up and is coming out of time/sectional merit races this prep. The four-year-old has been heavily backed in both starts this campaign, and his last start effort gave every indication he is set to improve over more ground. He maps to have all favours from the kind draw, has multiple winning ratings, and Kerrin McEvoy goes back on. Hard to beat with even luck.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 5 # 6 – DIAMIL

He returned well at Randwick a fortnight ago, and his run had sectional merit in a strong rating race, finishing third behind Amor Victorious. Further, he was run to suit but hit the line hard and made up significant ground. Punter's Intelligence recorded that he ran the race's fastest final 600m split in 33.67, and he can only step off that performance out to a more suitable trip. He has a solid second-up record, James McDonald rides, and he draws ideally.

TUNCURRY – COUNTRY PICK: Race 6 # 5 – PENNART

He was extremely well-backed first-up at Taree when starting at $1.40 and was brave in defeat, running second in a high-rating race. The three-year-old was given no peace throughout, absorbing the pressure, but to his credit, he tried hard all the way to the line. Further, he beat the rest easily, and the other on-pace runners faded, adding extra merit to his performance. He handles all conditions, was narrowly beaten at this track/distance last campaign, maps to have all favours and has dominant figures relative to his opposition.
