Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

By Nick Berney

ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST BET: Race 10 # 3 – WAY TO THE STARS

He is in career-best form and was brave in defeat last start at this track/distance. The gelding sat outside the leader at a fast tempo and went down fighting in a tight finish to run second. Further, that race rated highly relative to the day, and there has been a subsequent Group 2 winner to confirm the form. He profiles well for this event where the Rosehill 1100m suits, and he maps to control the speed with the in-form Nash Rawiller to ride. In addition, he has won a tick-over trial in style, and all his career peak efforts have come when fresh. Hard to catch.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST VALUE: Race 8 # 12 – OBAMBURUMAI

The Japanese raider is still only lightly raced, but he brings a strong overseas profile that lines up well for this assignment. Further, he is a Group 3 winner and repeating his last start placing/figure in the Group 1 NHK Mile Cup (1600m) will put him in the finish. The four-year-old relishes high-pressure races, which suits his key attribute being closing speed. Moreover, the clockwise direction suits and although he'll need luck in the big field, expect him to hit the line.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 2 # 5 – FALL FOR CINDY

She is on the quick backup, and her run had sectional merit seven days ago at Royal Randwick. She wasn't suited to the sit/sprint race shape, but she built through her gears well, and Punter's Intelligence recorded she ran the fourth equal fastest final 200m split of the meeting in 11.53. The John O'Shea galloper is looking for more ground, and all key indicators suggest she is set to improve fourth-up.

DUBBO – COUNTRY PICK: Race 2 # 1 – BARRY THE POET

He is ready to win fourth-up and has a positive race setup here. The gelding raced well last start at Orange in a high-rating race with decisive margins throughout to confirm the quality. Further, he hit the line well and ran one of the fastest final 200m splits of the meeting. He maps to have all favours and has an SP edge over some of his key rivals. Repeating his last-start performance/figure will make him hard to beat.
