Wagga SDRA Country Championships winner Canny Hell returns to racing at Wagga on Thursday with the hope he can measure up to better races during a spring campaign.
Albury trainer Kym Davison will send his stable star back to the scene of his biggest career victory in the Avis Riverina Showcase Ian Reid Sprint (1200m).
There were unforgettable scenes when Canny Hell triumphed in the Wagga heat on March 1 and Davison is pleased to see the gelding back racing from a suitable draw.
His first-up record of two victories from three attempts has Davison hopeful of a forward showing with jockey John Kissick aboard for the first time under race conditions.

“He is ready to race and is almost 100 per cent. This race will top off for a suitable race at Flemington at his next start a couple of weeks later,” Davison said.
Canny Hell is the finished product now as a five-year-old and looked the part in his latest start when second behind stablemate Autumn Break in his only trial this campaign at Albury on August 19.
At his latest start, Canny Hell ran eighth behind Compelling Truth – a contender for the NSW country racehorse of the year – in the Wagga Town Plate on May 1.
That race was about a month after he finished ninth in the $1 million Country Championships final at Randwick.
Davison is adamant Canny Hell never really settled in for his Sydney trip and this is the reason his next start after Wagga will be closer to home at Flemington.
“He wasn’t at his best for the Country Championships. He has had a spell since and is ready to go, but this start will bring him on a bit more,” he suggested.
Blitzar has raced twice for current trainer Troy Lorback winning his first at Parkes then finishing sixth behind Take The Rap and Just Google Me in the Wagga Whiz, Just Google Me was back to his best last start and fought on tenaciously after showing early speed to lead.
He has again drawn wide with only Vella Magic outside of him at the start.
Copperfield has won four of his past seven starts and is proven on wet tracks.
He hasn’t raced since finishing sixth behind Hot Bandit in the Narrandera Cup on July 13.
Last start winner Salute Again will receive six kilograms off Canny Hell and has race fitness on his side.
Canny Hell will be joined by stablemate Autumn Break who makes his debut in the Waringa Distribution Showcase Super Maiden (1200m).
Autumn Break looked the part in his trial win and has also drawn well in gate four.
“His dam is a half sister to Canny Hell and when he went for a cheaper sale price than we thought most of the same owners bought into him,” Davison said.
“He has always been a nice horse and his trial was very good – the time was fast for the day – so hopefully he brings that to the races,” he said.
