Country Championships Contenders Making Returns At Bathurst (Today)

By Alexander Grant

Dean Mirfin will be hoping he can follow up a victory on Friday at Dubbo with two more on his home track.

Mirfin watched his three-year-old filly Gemmahra ($3.40 favourite) storm home to win the Country Maiden Showcase Plate (1300m) at Dubbo and in the process continue the promising start to her career.

Dean Mirfin leading Worldly Pleasure

The Bathurst trainer has former Country Championships hopefuls Alcatran ($2 favourite on TAB fixed odds) and Worldly Pleasure ($5.50) returning from spells today.

Alcatran didn't fare well in his heat but has hit back in style this preparation with an encouraging trial win late last month. He takes on the Class 2 Plate (1100m).

Worldly Pleasure went into her heat with two straight wins to her name but found the step up in class too tricky to handle.

The four-year-old mare returns in the Benchmark 66 Handicap (1200m).

Paul Theobald with Bel Blaster ($15) and Attilius ($51), and Peter Stanley with Abraded ($2 fav) and Narrow Neck Nelson ($9.50) are also in action.
