Corowa Tips For Monday - By Neil Evans

Selections by Neil Evans

The rail is in the TRUE position with the track rated a Good 4. The forecast is for a sunny raceday and a top of 19 degrees.

Monday 19th May – COROWA

Race 1 - 1:05PM UPTON CENTRE PIVOT IRRIGATION CTRY BOOSTED (1200M)

2. DITA VON ($ on TAB) is an honest filly who can finally break through deep into her first prep. Was in the placings in four straight runs against better opposition before fading late when pushed out to 1400m. Much better suited over this trip with superior tactical speed and she was scratched from a deeper race at Albury last Friday to be saved for this. 5. Sundrop ($) did his best work late when resuming in a Super Maiden and can park closer in the run here from a much lower draw. Watch the betting on 6. Colombiano ($) who resumes off a handy trial from the inside draw. 7. Deflector ($) is an improving mare and clear best of the rest.

How to play it: Dita Von to win

Race 2 - 1:40PM WALDRON'S FRESH ON RIVER IGA-COROWA MDN (1000M)

1. BURNT TO A CRISP ($) is a three-year-old by Sizzling who can strike on debut behind two forward trials, the latest at this track 12 days ago. Similar story with 2. Shelly's Legacy ($), a Victorian by Reward For Effort who also starts his career off two progressive trials and wearing winkers, although has drawn the outside barrier. 10. Tippytay ($) is a lightly raced filly who reloads off an eight-week turnaround and quiet trial. Will appreciate coming back to a weaker race. 7. Majestic Maremma ($) is a gradual improver who can run home into the money third-up, while 8. Momentice ($) also third-up is a must for all exotic plays.

How to play it: Burnt To A Crisp to win

Race 3 - 2:15PM COROWA CHAFF MILL CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1000M)

3. CHOICE WITNESS ($) is a tough and underrated Victorian mare who is well placed to win first-up off a quiet trial. Won a BM58 at Albury in mid-January before only three lengths from the winner in a much deeper BM64 at Sandown before spelling. Comes to hand early in the prep and gets her preferred firm surface. 1. Danceenuff ($) has plenty of ability and can improve sharply dropping in class third-up. 5. Flitgrove ($) is another border-hopper shooting for back-to-back wins after finishing best in a very moderate BM58 third-up at Kilmore. 4. Loafer ($) is hard fit with gear changes and can figure in the minor money, along with 9. Lightning Lizard ($) who draws better fourth-up.

How to play it: Choice Witness to win

Race 4 - 2:50PM COROWA DISTILLING COMPANY MAIDEN PLATE (1400M)

8. FLUTTERBY ($) is an improving Victorian mare who finds a weak and very winnable race second-up over 100m further. Was in and around the money in some handy maidens last spring and did her best work late when resuming at Wangaratta in a race of more depth. Keep safe 10. Shebrings Beauty ($) comes back a furlong in trip fourth-up and is drawn to get a cosy rails run back in the pack. 9. Hot One ($) is a stablemate of the top selection and similarly well placed second-up in weaker company over more ground. 1. Brilliant Badger ($) is still chasing a breakthrough win ahead of his 28th start, but can run into the placings while 3. Pride Of Jezza ($) peaks fifth-up from a softer draw.

How to play it: Flutterby to win

Race 5 - 3:25PM BILNEY BUILDERS COROWA COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 (1200M)

8. SHELLY’S ACE ($) is a consistent enough mare who is primed to break a long wait for a third career win. Finished off okay in a handy BM58 at Goulburn over the short course before being ridden quieter and doing her best work late in similar company at Queanbeyan. Desperate for the extra furlong here and can settle back off a solid speed and prove too strong late. 1. Abstruse ($) will relish a big drop in class from a Cl 3 Highway at Randwick where she made up some ground from the back at huge odds. Looks fairly treated at the weights after the jockey's claim. 2. Perfectly Good ($) is sparingly raced and stuck on well to only miss by a head in a BM58 over the border when coming off a six-week break. 4. Tycoon Artie ($) is also in the mix after running into a place in a good quality BM58 fourth-up.

How to play it: Shelley's Ace to win

Race 6 - 4:05PM CAMPBELL'S WINES RUTHERGLEN BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1400M)

5. TOMMY FLYER ($) is a progressive four-year-old well placed to claim a second career win at his seventh start and fourth-up on an eight-day turnaround. Bolted in his maiden from the front at Queanbeyan three starts back before failing to hit the line in a BM58. Bounced back at home missing by a nose at Cl 1 level after doing early work from the gate and this is only marginally stronger. Gets a 2kg weight drop after the claim and draws to get the ideal run right on speed. 6. Lucy Lulu ($) is hard fit deep into the prep shooting for back-to-back wins. 9. Lysander ($) steps up from a strong closing win in a weaker field when second-up. 1. Salute Again ($) is a reliable weight carrier and right in the battle here despite drawing wide. 4. Native Leaf ($) third-up goes in trifecta and first four plays.

How to play it: Tommy Flyer to win

Race 7 - 4:45PM BALLDALE HOTEL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600M)

6. WARPAINTED ($) is ideally placed to claim a third career win at his eighth start, dropping significantly in class fourth-up. Ran home okay behind a smart winner of the Wagga Guineas Prelude before finishing just over two lengths from that same galloper and ultra impressive Guineas winner 17 days ago. Back in this company from a soft trailing draw, he's the one to beat. 2. Torn ($) is a tough and consistent Victorian three-year-old bursting to claim a third career win deep into his prep. Has beaten all bar the winner in three runs at BM 58 level over the border since finishing best to beat a similar field in mid-March. The 4kg claimer booked is the key to off-setting a big weight and with any sort of tag into the race, he'll be charging home again. 3. Drunken Sailor ($) is up to this as well third-up after doing his best work late in a Class 3, but will likely be forced a long way back again from a wide draw. Keep safe 7. Midnight Affair ($) has found the line late in her last two at deeper Saturday Cl 3 Highway level. Gap to the rest headed by 8. Ancho ($), shooting for three straight wins up in grade and 9. Kerma Art ($) who is very fit and likes to settle well back and hit the line.

How to play it: Warpainted to win
