Choice Mount For Alysha Collett In Showcase Nowra Cup (Sunday)

By John Schell

The David Pfieffer-trained galloper Clear Choice ($5 equal favourite on TAB) will chase a potential start in next year’s $3m Big Dance when he lines up against a number of talented contenders in Sunday’s $65,000 Country Motor Company Nowra Cup (1600m).

Clear Choice is a three-time winner from just 10 starts and has another four minor placings to his name.

A winner at Rosehill two starts ago, Clear Choice was narrowly beaten when finishing second under lights at Canterbury Park behind Buillt when last produced.

Alysha Collett takes over the ride on Clear Choice from Joshua Parr, who has been in the saddle for the son of Choisir’s latest two starts.

Collett was aboard three starts ago when Clear Choice finished a narrow second at Kembla Grange.

Clear Choice’s rivals at Nowra include the Kris Lees-prepared Baltic Coast ($9.50), which has apprentice Dylan Gibbons down for his only ride of the day.

Baltic Coast heads into the event having finished third at Kembla Grange in the final event on the day The Gong was contested.

Bjorn Baker will be represented by Cinque Torri ($10) in the Nowra Cup, with Robbie Downey taking the ride on the galloper that finished fifth in the Little Dance at Randwick last month.

Meanwhile, Collett could be in for a big day at the feature Nowra meeting, with several other key rides awaiting the jockey.

In addition to Clear Choice, she will also combine with Ballistic Jewel ($26) in The Country Club St Georges Basin Showcase Maiden Handicap (1100m) and Lethal Lady ($5) in the Brian Hayward Electrical Belle Of The South-F&M Benchmark 66 Showcase Handicap (1200m).

Others include Riva D’Amor ($4.60) in the HQ Insurance Class 1 Showcase Handicap (1000m) and Greatestofease ($5.50) in the KNK Builders Country Maiden Showcase Plate (1400m).

She will round out the day on the Gary Portelli-prepared Kiss The Outcast ($34) in the Magic Millions Gold Coast Showcase Super Maiden Handicap (1200m).

Ballistic Jewel is on debut for the John Thompson stable and has failed to flatter in a few trials, while Lethal Lady looks suited in her event.

Riva D’Amor is in the Richard Litt stable, with the Warwick Farm trainer favouring the Nowra meeting in preference to Saturday’s Kembla Grange meeting where she was also an acceptor.
