California August Joins Leaders In NSW Picnic Champion Series

Moruya-trained galloper California August has gone one better to claim last Saturday's Dunk Insurance / New England Construction Harden Picnic Cup (1400m).

The seven-year-old was edged out when runner-up in the Lockhart Picnic Cup three weeks beforehand but under Maddie Wright atoned at Harden when a $4.80 chance.

California August, prepared by Natalie Jarvis, scored by a short neck from Wonder Brahma (Emily Waters, $13) with Fire and Gemstone (Leandro Ribeiro, $8) third.

The gelding now moves up to equal leader on the 2024 NSW Picnic Champion Series point score with Merdeka and Steady Jam on 14 points.

The next chance to earn points will be at BONG BONG PICNICS on Friday 24th November.
