Baker Heads To Bathurst To Build Big Dance Team (Sunday)

By John Schell

Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker is targeting the Big Dance at Randwick on the first Tuesday in November and he has a number of chances tackling the Bathurst Cup on Sunday as a result.

“It’s a $3 million race [The Big Dance], a great race worth winning,” said Baker.

“Why wouldn’t anyone want to be chasing it?”

Baker has last start Dubbo Cup fourth placegetter Hollywood Hero in the Bathurst Cup, as well as Cinque Torri, and Spaltet.

“Hollywood Hero is racing really well,” said Baker.

“His latest few runs have been really good.

“His run in the Dubbo Cup last time was great. He drew a bad barrier and went back but he hit the line really well and it was a great run.”

Baker said Hollywood Hero is poised to run well at Bathurst, with Ashley Morgan taking the ride.

“Ash rode him a couple weeks ago at Dubbo and he drew wide there and had to go back,” said Baker.

“He settled well back in the field and he hit the line well to finish fourth. It was one of his best runs even though he didn’t run a place.

“He’s drawn a lot better at Bathurst and he can settle closer in the run.”

Cinque Torri ran well in the Dubbo Cup as well, and Baker is expecting another forward showing and Bathurst.

“He drew well at Dubbo and was right there,” said Baker.

“He’s drawn pretty well again at Bathurst and Robbie Dolan takes the ride. He will be thereabouts.”

Baker will be well represented at Bathurst, with Shalmum contesting the third event.

“She’s only had the one start and she ran well in that when she ran second,” said Baker.

“With the benefit of natural improvement, I’m sure she’ll be hard to beat.”

Baker has secured a start in The TAB Everest with Overpass, and he things the sprinter is in the race with a big chance having been placed behind Private Eye last weekend.

“The’s a really good horse on his day,” Baker said of Overpass.

“On his best form, he could win any race on any day.”
