Apprentices Out To 'Claim' Bragging Rights At Goulburn (Thursday)

Goulburn hosts more autumn racing on Thursday and the elixir of youth is evident right across the card with apprentice riders taking up 38% of the rides on offer.

Across seven races that represents 27 separate rides. Of the ‘little a’ brigade racing at Goulburn four are male and another 10 are female.

The spectrum of learning experience reflects some just starting out whilst others are well and truly on their way to establishing a career in the saddle.

The likes of Molly Bourke, Will Stanley, Olivia Chambers and Coriah Keatings have multiple rides between them as they compete at country level with no claim.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is the newest of the new in Goulburn-based Dale Cole.

Cole recently had his first two raceday rides at Goulburn for Danny Williams. A last and a fourth placed return quickly introducing Cole to the realities of raceday competition.

Goulburn Race Club CEO Robyn Fife says it’s already been a week where Goulburn-trained horses have had evident success with apprentice talent getting the job done.

“We saw an all-Goulburn quinella at Warwick Farm on Wednesday with young talent in the saddle delivering results,” Ms Fife offered.

“Tash Burleigh was able to secure a deserved city win for the consistent Pokerjack courtesy of a mature ride by apprentice Ben Osmond. Scott Collings filled the runner-up spot courtesy of Braith Nock’s solid effort on Extravagent Lad.”

Punters looking to build a ‘future-fund’ via some in-form claimers on Thursday could do worse than read up on the likes of:

Zac Wadick – heads up the Hume for just one ride on Thursday (Maire De Paris for Ciaron Maher $4.20 TAB in Race 3) after a bold on-pace winning ride at Hawkesbury last Saturday on Jamberoo ... should appreciate the ‘drop in class’.

Glenn Cahill (claims 1.5kg) – has five rides at Goulburn on Thursday and recent results suggest another win is just around the corner.

Rebecca Bronett-Prag (claims 1.5kg) – has banked three winners and two minor placings from her last 13 rides.

Sinead Peebles (claims 3 kg)- had a breakout day at Moruya recently notching a winning double and a top three result.

Will Stanley (nil claim country) – has a winning strike rate of 25% humming along in recent weeks.

Izzy Neale – making hay in the Northern Districts of late with six winners in the last five weeks at a strike rate of 23%. Rides Hellaine ($7.50) for John Thompson in Race 4, the Integrate Building Group Class 1 Hcp over 1200m.

Those heading to Goulburn on Thursday can expect fine conditions with a track currently rated a Soft 6. Tune in for Race 1 at 12.40pm.
