Apprentice Shayleigh Ingelse In Superb Form At Dubbo

By Colin Hodges

For the second time over recent weeks Dubbo-based apprentice Shayleigh Ingelse has ridden a winning treble.

Ingelse achieved the feat on Saturday in front of a record breaking crowd for a Christmas week race meeting at Dubbo.

Apprenticed to Dubbo trainer Michael Mulholland, Shayleigh Ingelse (24yo) won on Epic Poem, Wandering Jack and Bylong at Wellington in mid-November and her Dubbo treble came aboard Autumn Song, Platinum Warrior and Charlie Magic.

Making it three wins in succession, the Michael Mulholland-trained Autumn Song (Shayleigh Ingelse, $3.40 into $2.60 favourite) with a strong run from near the back of the field defeated Mrs Bull (Mikayla Weir, $8) and Miss Monopoly (Ashleigh Stanley, $15) in a close finish to the opening event, the 1600m Total Diesel Repairs Benchmark 58 Handicap.

The following race, the 1400m Earlyrise Bakery/Village Bakery Maiden Handicap saw the Brett Robb, Dubbo-trained Platinum Warrior (Shayleigh Ingelse, $3.50 to $2.60 fav) settling further back than midfield before prevailing over Brandywine (Georgina McDonnell, $21) and Wotastatement (Zoe Hunt, $8).

Brett Robb also supplied the third leg of the Shayleigh Ingelse treble, Charlie Magic in the Barastoc 1000m Benchmark 58 Handicap.

Raced by David Ringland and partners, Charle Magic ($11) tracked the leading group then finished best to score in a three-way photo finish from Desirous (Siena Grima, $5 to $4.20) and Press Forward (Leeshelle Small, $5.50 to $4.60).

Another Dubbo-based apprentice currently riding well is Zoe Hunt who led throughout on the Fabio Martino, Hawkesbury-trained Grande Bellezza ($2.70 fav) to win the 1200m Precision Health Care Benchmark 50 Handicap from Candid (Cobi Vitler, $4.20) and Hoorini (Clayton Gallagher, $3.90).

Most punters missed out when rank outsider Richter won the 1400m Elders Real Estate Rural Benchmark 50 Handicap for Scone trainer Simon Casey.

Leading all the way, Richter ($21) under strong riding from Michael Heagney lasted to win by a head from Dundas (Ashleigh Stanley, $6) with a short half head to the third-placed I’m Scarlett (Mikayla Weir, $2.70 fav).

From the powerful Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald stable at Scone, Needing Attention (Ellen Hennessy, $3 fav) set the pace in the TDR-Mechanical Builds Repair & Maintenance Maiden Plate when a two-length winner over the strong finishing Written By Choice (Zoe Hunt, $41) and Specula (Kody Nestor, $7).
