Amegdul To Shine In The Twilight (Albury Friday)

By Graeme White

Favourite Amegdul ($2.15 NSW TAB) is set to add his name to the honour roll for The Twilight – the feature race at Albury on Friday.

Amegdul is one of two starters for trainer Dan McCarthy who will also be represented by track specialist Northernero (4 wins from 7 starts).

Impressive first-up winner Prophet’s Pride is well placed at her best to win after her first-up display before she raced below expectations at her latest appearance.

The track is rated a soft 7 after a substantial amount of rain fell in the lead-up to the meeting with no more expected up until race time.

McCarthy said the state of the track would play a role in how his horses perform with Amegdul coming out of what has turned out to be a strong form race from his first-up display.

“There were some nice horses finishing behind him and if he repeats that he will be right in the race,” he said.

“Northernero is at his right distance and loves the track so if things go his way he can also bounce back.”

Stablemates Sizzling Cat and Carnival Miss could also figure with light weights as they progress through their preparation.

Sizzling Cat is first-up off a break and races well at Albury where he has recorded two wins from four starts, while Carnival Miss drops down in the weighs and will be fitter for one start back from a spell.

Brenlyn’s Trooper, with Jake Duffy in the saddle, is race fit and in the right type of race to figure, according to trainer Andrew Dale.

“He is probably a better chance if the track is wet and he has good form at Albury,” Dale said.

Dale is looking forward to seeing stable newcomer Confessed have her second start for them in the Benchmark 66 (1500m).

Confessed finished powerfully from back in the field under the same weight when having her first start for Dale.

The mare finished second in the competitive Mother’s Gift at the Grafton carnival in July when prepared by Kris Lees.

“The owner picked her up for what we thought was a good price and she showed us enough last time to suggest she is going to be handy in the right races,” he said.

“She gets back and runs on which is my main worry from the 1600 metres at Albury where they can sit up and sprint.

“If that happens the leaders are always hard to run down."

Mr Metrics was able to race on the speed when he won at his latest start at Albury and if he repeats that display he will again prove difficult to catch.

Diesel is first-up off a break, but he did win the Albury Guineas first-up from a break, but he did take out the Albury Guineas first-up from a break.

Cuffe’s Grange and Unique Prince are also strong chances in what is the most even race on the program.

Racing will start at the later time of 2.10pm with the last of eight races to be held at 6.35pm.
