A Legacy Of Dedication And Leadership At Tuncurry Racecourse

By Julie Manning

Garry McQuillan has decided to step down from his role as president of Tuncurry-Forster Jockey Club after an incredible 19 years of dedicated service.

Garry, alongside his loyal wife Marg, has been the driving force behind the TFJC, transforming the racecourse into the exceptional facility it is today.

His tireless efforts, vision, and commitment have elevated the club to new heights, including securing the esteemed title of “Country Race Club of the Year.”

Known for his meticulous attention to detail, Garry has an unmatched knowledge of Tuncurry Racecourse, from the very first nail hammered into place to the smallest items in the jockeys’ rooms.

His dedication extends well beyond the track itself, where he is admired and respected by leaders across the racing community, many of whom regularly seek his guidance and expertise.

While Garry's retirement leaves a significant void, he has confidently passed the torch to Michael Summers, who has assumed the role of president.

With Garry’s mentorship and a solid foundation to build upon, TFJC is well-prepared for a bright future.

Though he’ll be stepping back from official duties, Garry won’t be a stranger at TFJC as he plans to attend race meetings as a spectator, enjoying the races and cheering on his favourite horses.

Garry and Marg also look forward to travelling more, taking advantage of the well-earned time together after years of service to the community.

In recognition of his enduring impact on the club, Garry has accepted the honorary position of Patron of the TFJC, where he will join current Patron, Ray Hadley. This role will allow Garry to stay connected to the club he has dedicated so much to during the past near two decades.

On behalf of the entire TFJC family, we wish Garry and Marg all the happiness and enjoyment they deserve in their retirement.

Their legacy will be felt by everyone involved with the club, and we look forward to seeing Garry’s familiar face at race meetings for many years to come!
