Canterbury Park will continue to offer regular Course Proper and Polytrack gallops after a number of leading Sydney stables have strongly supported the Australian Turf Club’s initiative to invest in and further utilise the racecourse.
Trainers will be able to use both surfaces from 6am on scheduled days for horses nominated for the following Canterbury Park Friday night and Saturday metropolitan meetings in January and February, leading into the Sydney Autumn Carnival.
Additional horses not nominated for the meetings may be permitted for trackwork sessions, depending on total numbers for these gallops.
Leading trainers who have utilized this opportunity include Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Anthony and Edward Cummings, Chris Waller, and Peter and Paul Snowden.
A schedule has now been released for January and February 2018 as follows.
- 16 January (Course Proper and Polytrack)
- 30 January (Course Proper and Polytrack)
- 13 February (Course Proper and Polytrack)
- 27 February (Course Proper and Polytrack)
Australian Turf Club Acting CEO James Heddo said the Club’s new investment in Canterbury Park has been very well received by the trainers who have taken advantage of the great facilities on offer at Canterbury Park.
“The ATC remains focused on Sydney’s training and stabling infrastructure and the work we have done at Canterbury Park has been a major part of our plans,’’ Mr Heddo said.
“With the new Polytrack being available, Canterbury Park has become a first-class training facility, whilst still playing a major role in our racing program, including Friday nights.’’
Trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott said: “Canterbury Park as a training facility has been a great asset, with an excellent course proper, and the Polytrack for the development and education of our more inexperienced horses. In a short period of time, we have experienced some very pleasing results”.
Trainers Anthony and Edward Cummings said: “The Polytrack surface at Canterbury is a very useful tool in the training of our horses, particularly two year olds.
“The surface is forgiving and consistent and provides something different for our horses to experience.”
