RACEHORSE LEASING FORUM
Racing NSW's Racehorse Leasing Forum has proven a popular initiative. The Racehorse Leasing Forum was established by RNSW following the success of the Broodmare Forum. The Racehorse Leasing Forum has been designed to act as a 'broker' through whom lessors and potential lessees can be matched, with the aim to increase the number of owners and horses participating in the industry.

Racehorse owners are invited to list their horses on this website together with their contact details. Potential lessees may then contact the lessor and negotiate a lease with the owner. Racing NSW does not charge for this service.

Leasing is an economical alternative to purchasing a thoroughbred as a lessee does not have to outlay the capital required to purchase a racehorse. Up to 10 individuals may arrange a lease and race a horse as partners, or form registered syndicates for the lease (the owner cannot offer shares in the lease unless registering with ASIC, but a lessee can form a partnership privately with friends and colleagues and divide the lease into shares).

Typically, the lessee is responsible for all costs associated with racing and maintaining the leased horse, and pays the lessor an agreed percentage of prizemoney earned. Leasing of horses is strictly controlled by the Registrar of Racehorses and the Rules of Racing.

Racing NSW is a facilitator in this process, and will not take part in any negotiations between the parties. Lease forms are available from Racing NSW or by clicking on the following link - Lease a Racehorse

This initiative is consistent with Racing NSW's objective of increasing participation in racing at all levels, and the promotion of ownership is one Racing NSW's paramount objectives. Racehorses for lease are entered as they are received. i.e. the most recently received racehorses for lease will be on the top of the list. A list of Lessors' email addresses - where supplied - have been added with a contact telephone number the alternative option.

Racehorses are now deleted after approximately four months time. If Racing NSW is not notified the horse has been successfully leased, after around six months it will be deleted from the list. Lessors are quite welcome to contact Racing NSW to re-enter their horse(s) should it be taken from the list.

To add your racehorse to the list please send an email (Racehorse Leasing Forum in the subject line) with the following information:-

  • Name of racehorse, age and sex
  • Sire and dam
  • Name of racehorse owner
  • Phone number/email address

Send your email to - racing@racingnsw.com.au

Note: Racehorse owners should make contact (as per above) when an agreement has been reached with another party, in order to have your racehorse deleted from the list *(Aus) unless stated

BROODMARE FORUM
It has been identified that of the 7,485 broodmares residing in NSW, approximately 1,430 were not used for breeding purposes in 2017/18. It is believed that broodmare owners may only have their mares served by stallions every second or third year.

To promote all broodmares being deployed, Racing NSW created the Broodmare Forum. The Forum enables persons wishing to use the broodmares, to contact the owner and negotiate a price or an agreement to use the mare. For example, a fee may be paid, or the broodmare owner might retain a share of the foal.

This initiative is consistent with Racing NSW’s objective of increasing participation in racing at all levels, and the promotion of ownership & adding to the base of racehorses in this State is one of Racing NSW's paramount objectives. Racing NSW does not charge for this service.

Broodmares for lease or for breeding use through negotiation with the owner(s) are now entered as they are received. i.e. the most recently received broodmares will be on the top of the list.

A list of email addresses for broodmare owners - where supplied - have been added with a contact telephone number the alternative option.

Broodmares are now purged from the list after four months. If Racing NSW is not notified the horse has been successfully leased, after six months it will be deleted.

To add your broodmare to the list please send an email (Broodmare Forum in the subject line) with the following information:-

  • Phone number/email address
