Racing Mates To Host Tamworth Morning Tea Get-Together (Tues 27 Feb)

Racing industry participants in the Hunter North West Racing District are invited to attend the next Racing Mates Morning Tea ‘Get-together’, which will be held in the Members Room of the Tamworth Racecourse next week on Tuesday 27th February.

Racing Mates is a peer support initiative that was established by Racing NSW in 2016, empowering mates to look out for mates. The peer support group has held several morning teas and workshops previously across New South Wales, and, the Tamworth session is the first to be rolled out for 2018.

“We are looking forward to catching up with participants of the Hunter North West,” said Pat Webster, a Racing Mates ambassador [pictured left].

“We’ve run many of these morning tea get-togethers previously, and it is a great opportunity for the racing community to come together for a chat.”

Research has found that effective support offered from peers and colleagues can aid significantly in coping with stress and difficult situations. People are often more likely to initially reach out to a trusted peer or colleague for support when in need.

Racing Mates has appointed several Ambassadors across NSW that are available as a port of call when industry participants are in need of a mate.

“There is nothing better than talking to someone who understands where you're coming from," Webster, also an accredited Racing NSW drug and alcohol mentor, said. “Myself, and all of our other ambassadors, are always there to have a chat when participants need to talk to someone.”

The Ambassadors possess a wealth of industry knowledge allowing them to relate to multifaceted concerns people may be experiencing. Industry-specific expertise combined with accredited training ensures Ambassadors can provide a crucial link between those in need and the required support.

The Tamworth morning tea get-together will be held on Tuesday 27th February, from 10am at the Tamworth Racecourse Members Room, at Britten Road, Tamworth.

“Come and join friends and colleagues to get together and enjoy morning tea,” Webster added.
