Neil Evans' Selections For Warwick Farm Races (Wednesday)

By Neil Evans

The track is rated a Good 4 with the rail in the TRUE position. The forecast is for a sunny day with a top of 30 degrees.

Race 1 - 2:20PM IRRESISTIBLE POOLS AND SPA HANDICAP (1000M)

5. MISTY VEIL ($3.20 on TAB) is a progressive filly in the home Ciaron Maher stable who is tracking to peak big here. Missed by a whisker at Wyong when resuming for just her second start. 2. Ice Kool ($2 favourite) is a first starter by Zoustar and trained by David Pfeiffer, kicking off via two trials with a string of gear additions. 1. Farnished ($9.50) is a big betting watch returning off a 39-week break for only his second start for the Waterhouse-Bott stable behind two progressive trials. 3. Century Song ($9.50) was well backed when sticking on into a place resuming in a handy maiden at Kembla. 4. Madame Fiocca ($18) is a talented and lightly raced mare resuming off a very long break. Any market moves will be crucial and was good through the line in winning the second of two trials. 6. Capdiva ($11) draws inside for her second start and comes through the same race as the top selection.

How to play it: Misty Veil to win

Race 2 - 2:55PM PETALUMA PLATE (1400M)

1. MAN OF WORTH ($4) is a lightly raced import and significant market watch returning for his first run since the autumn behind two strong and impressive trials for the Chris Waller stable which had 10 of the 14 accepted runners. Drawn wide, but gets in very well at the weights after the rider's 3kg claim. Stablemate filly 11. Pink Persuasion ($2.90 fav) is well placed and drawn to strike at her third start. 4. Botanist ($6.50) is another Waller runner who led for a long way at the provincials when having just his second start. Watch the betting on Waller-trained 10. Miss Lola ($3.50) who hasn’t been far away in three runs and has a real edge in race fitness.

How to play it: Man Of Worth to win

Race 3 - 3:30PM HAWAII FIVE OH @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1000M)

4. SWORDPLAY ($1.80 fav) is a smart filly from the Bjorn Baker yard who can make it two wins from three in her first full prep. Gave nothing else a chance from the front when fresh at Newcastle before only run down late at Canterbury in a BM 68. Up in grade, but right at short course peak fitness and the drop back 100m is a big plus. 2. I Found You ($260) is a lightly raced and talented mare who can fire first-up off a year-long break for the Joe Pride stable. Progressed quickly to Listed level this time last year and fitted with two trials. 1. Formal ($7.50) is working towards another win third-up, coming back from a fair one-off run at Doomben. Previous closing effort at Wyong was good and gets handy weight relief after the claim. 8. Pelette ($21) who is a speedy and honest country-based short courser.

Race 4 - 4:05PM ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP (1600M)

4. MISS HADES ($3.30 fav) will find this much more to her liking after beaten only a long neck when resuming against deeper Saturday opposition 18 days ago. Naturally climbs sharply in weight, but has enough tactical speed to park right behind the leader. 2. It’s A Wonder ($4.80) comes through that same BM 78 formline at Newcastle as the top selection, although also back up sharply in weight. 3. Kingston Charm ($5) draws to get plenty of cover back off the speed while 5. Nantucket Island ($6) shoots for a third win from four runs this prep rising in grade. 7. Diamond Model ($8) is the best of the rest and goes in trifecta and first fours.

How to play it: Miss Hades to win

Race 5 - 4:40PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP (2400M)

2. BESTOWER ($2.40 fav) is a smart provincial-based mare bursting to win a third race deep into the current prep. Charged home to miss by a long head in BM 78 metro company at big odds two starts ago before again stiff not to win against similar Saturday opposition when rocketing home from the back. Up sharply in weight for the drop in grade, but suited by the longer trip. Ready to start turning around a record that has produced only two wins from 23 starts, but placed a further 12 times. 1. Black Babylon ($4.20) is an emerging stayer of promise who has easily won his last two, the latest in a very moderate country Class 1 as the hottest of favourites. Finished right behind the placegetters at Group 2 level back in autumn, and is naturally well capable of making the step up to this grade even under 60kg. 6. War Ribbon ($5) is hard fit staying over the distance and 7. Sting In The Tail ($4.40) can also run home into the action having finished best to win a BM 72 here two starts back. 4. Mediaro ($18) also possesses a big finish and shoots for a third straight win at big odds rising in grade.

How to play it: Bestower to win

Race 6 - 5:15PM TAB HANDICAP (1200M)

3. LIVIN' THING ($5.50), a four-year-old by The Everest winner Yes Yes Yes, has plenty of tactical speed and is unbeaten first-up. Won both lead-up trials and returns without blinkers suggesting he will be switched on. 13 Tequila Baby ($4.20 fav) is an emerging provincial-based mare building a smart record with three wins and two placings from eight starts. Missed by a head fresh in a BM 64 before coming to the city and beating a good quality mares field from on speed. Draws to get an economical run behind the lead. 2. Hellbent On You ($9) resumes off two forward enough trials and 6. Peace Centre ($5.50) ran home okay behind a smart winner when resuming and has a 50% winning strike rate from six starts.
