Loyal ATC Members Celebrated On Bob Charley AO Stakes Day (Randwick)

Many of Australian Turf Club’s longest-serving Members will be honoured at Royal Randwick this Saturday on one of the feature racedays of the Sydney winter racing program.

The $200,000 Listed-Bob Charley AO Stakes headlines on the track a 10-race card which has attracted a bumper 169 entries.

Bob Charley AO is a former Chairman of the Australian Jockey Club, inaugural Chairman of the NSW Thoroughbred Racing Board and inaugural Chairman of the Australian Racing Board. Mr Charley also held a number of other prominent positions in the racing industry.

He will be honoured on Saturday with 24 male ATC Members who have reached 50 years of continuous Membership of former Sydney Racing Clubs and the ATC.

This year marks the third group of new inductees to the ATC’s 40-Year Foundation Female Member category.

Five new female inductees will be recognised on Saturday, bringing to 32 the number of 40-Year Foundation Female Members.

Australian Turf Club's CEO, Steve McMahon said Saturday’s celebration in the Royal Randwick Ballroom was an important acknowledgement of a large group of the ATC’s most loyal and passionate Members.

“ATC Members are an integral part of our Club’s future and success, and these groups of 40 and 50-year plus Members continue to be a significant reminder of our past and present," Mr McMahon said.

“It’s also most appropriate we honour and celebrate these Members along with Bob Charley AO and the raceday named in his honour, for the long and great service Bob has given Sydney racing, our Club and the wider industry.

“We thank all ATC Members for their support and ongoing Membership as we join on Saturday for this special day of appreciation."

Full fields for Royal Randwick are available HERE and full TAB markets for all 10 races are available HERE.

In the Listed-Bob Charley AO Stakes, Joe Pride has three runners in the race although his winner from last year In Flight was in the field but has been withdrawn.

Pride's Accredited is on the third line of betting at $6 behind the $5.50 equal favourites General Salute (Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou/Josh Parr) and second emergency Wanaruah (Brett & Georgie Cavanough/Kerrin McEvoy).  Wanaruah's stablemate Chidiac ($7) is next.

Saturday continues the ATC’s Winter Long Lunch – a three-course five-hour dining experience in Royal Randwick’s prestigious Chairman’s Club. Full details of Saturday’s offer along with future racedays are available HERE.

The Winter Long Lunch will run until the end of August and is available for both ATC Members and non-Members. For all racing, general and ticketing information visit theraces.com.au
