Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 12th May

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft to heavy track.

Race 1 – 12:50PM VINERY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Cotehele dispensed with older horses on debut at Newcastle, doing it in the style of a promising youngster. Back to his own age and his trials would suggest a soft track will not hinder him. He’s a short price and with the danger scratched is entitled to win again.

Dangers: 4. Mihocek led all the way to post a maiden win at Kembla over the 1400m and you’d expect him to find the lead again here. May have bumped into a couple of more progressive horses at this stage but sure to give a good account. 8. Koondeeman had trialled okay going into his debut where he did some work on the speed and dropped out. Drawn in and blinkers go on, he may have the chance to get comfortable and improve quickly. 5. Celtic Harp is the lone survivor of the Chris Waller acceptors, he had a quiet trial behind Ranch Hand recently and betting should be watched.

How to play it: Cotehele WIN ($1.25 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 – 1.25PM DARLEY 2021 ROSTER HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

7. Fastconi had every chance when a close third on resuming at Canterbury but he does come back a notch in class into this and draws to get a nice run. Wet form is inconclusive as he hasn’t seen worse than a soft 6 but consistent and is a good chance.

Dangers: 4. Onchao was narrowly beaten first-up then had no luck in the Hawkesbury Guineas after sitting wide on the speed. Has won here and if you overlook last time he has to be a contender. 3. Rubamos sat on the speed to win a maiden easily here on a soft 6 first-up before being cut down in the last few strides up to this class. Sure to be competitive again. 6. Cadenabbia hasn't raced since February when he was a beaten, drifting, favourite in a Class 1 at Newcastle. Sent along to win his latest trial and is one to keep an eye on.

How to play it: Fastconi E/W ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Fastconi runs third at Canterbury on April 21

Race 3 – 2:00PM THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (2400 METRES)

2. Feel The Rush won’t find a better race to get back to her best form and she wouldn’t need to improve much on her second-up fifth in the G2 Chairman’s a month ago. Just ahead of her was Sydney Cup winner Selino and while she was 100/1 there she kept coming. Huge class drop.

Dangers: 5. Akatino made a promising local debut with an eye-catching third at Newcastle then only up marginally in trip for a battling eighth at Kembla. The 2400m looks up his alley and if he can get back to the first-up effort he can improve here. 3. Sound Of Cannons has shown a bit of promise since he arrived down under but is yet to deliver it on race day. Ridden closer at Canterbury last time and weakened but draws better here, gets to 2400m and fitter for a tickover trial. Every chance to show up. 8. Lava has been thereabouts since winning at 1500m five starts ago and boxed on well behind Alakahan in a similar race on Anzac Day. Each-way claims.

How to play it: Feel The Rush E/W ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Feel The Rush runs fifth at Randwick on April 10

Race 4 – 2.35PM RANVET HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

6. Sixgun has promised to be a smart horse and returns as a gelding having not raced since finishing under three lengths from Wild Ruler in September. Two trials have been sharp and while drawn out there looks good speed and he should get his shot at them. Read trainer Mark Newnham's comments here.

Dangers: 3. Derbari didn’t win last prep but he ran some solid races including a sharp first-up second over 1100m here on a wet track. He’s had a couple of quiet synthetic trials and gate one is handy if he can hold a midfield spot. Short of his best but can sprint well fresh. 4. Remlaps Gem led and seemingly had his chance when beaten at $1.80 first-up at Muswellbrook but he was beaten fresh there last prep before winning a Highway impressively. So he can improve sharply. Keep in mind. 5. Accelerato doesn’t win out of turn but he is often around the money as he was fresh at this track on a soft 7 last time in. Like Derbari he’s had a couple of synthetic trials and he’s also capable of finishing off strongly.

How to play it: Sixgun WIN ($1.95 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 5 – 3:10PM XXXX HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

9. Azarmin was a bit stiff not to win at Canterbury last start, she was badly checked on the bend and did a big job to pick up and go under less than a length. Both runs since a freshen have been excellent and with any luck from gate one this is a good chance for her to atone.

Dangers: 3. Gemmahra is on the back up after being run own in the last 200m by Media Starguest last week. She will roll forward from the wide gate and if she gets any control in front she will take catching because she can be very tough to get past. 6. Champagne Vega was placed in this grade three starts ago and comes into this after a close second at Wagga out to 1800m. Honest type who handles all conditions and has a strong finish. Each-way. 5. Tochi comes through the same race as Azarmin where she raced on speed and battled on as usual to run fourth. She does improve second-up and will be up on pace again from the wide alley. Has a case to be thereabouts.

How to play it: Azarmin WIN ($3.70 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Azarmin runs third at Canterbury on April 21

Race 6 – 3:45PM ROBRICK LODGE HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

6. Turnstyle wasn’t helped by barrier one when resuming with a close third here two weeks ago. Held up at a vital stage but finished hard to be beaten 0.8 lengths. Draws out here but that’s not a big negative for a go forward horse at this start point. Sure to run well.

Dangers: 3. Tiny pulled up lame after her failure at Flemington back in January so has an excuse there. Held together in her latest trial in a blanket finish. All her previous form was solid and she’s well up to winning this fresh. 8. Chervil came from last to win first-up at Goulburn and showed a sharp turn of foot when she changed stride about 150m out. Has to repeat the effort and would be aided by a solid tempo. Each-way claims. 12. Eye See Things was an impressive first-up winner then tried hard but no match for Nags To Riches at Gosford. Placed on a heavy track last prep and is worth including.

How to play it: Turnstyle E/W ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Turnstyle runs third at Warwick Farm on April 28

Race 7 – 4:20PM TAB HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

4. Adelaide’s Light is a promising colt who has been dominant in two wins since joining the Snowden stable. Put them away easily at Newcastle at the 1400m and while drawn wide here it’s a great starting point and with a bit of cover he can be hard to hold out at the finish.

Dangers: 3. Snippy Fox likes the sting out of the track so her second-up effort when a close third at Kensington on Anzac Day on a good track can be given an extra tick. She can roll forward from out wide and is a definite chance. 14. Buba might be a good each-way hope first-up. She did fail before a spell but three previous runs, including a couple at this level, were solid placings. Third to Snippy Fox first-up last prep and a similar effort has her in the mix. 9. Born A Warrior is now one from 14 but he is rarely too far away. He’s been beaten less than half a length at his past couple so doesn’t need to improve a lot to go close.

How to play it: Adelaide’s Light WIN ($3.70 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.
