Wouldn’t it be fascinating to see Autumn Glow take on the world’s best sprinter over 1200m at Royal Randwick!
Whether we get to see that is up to connections but wherever she goes, the superstar mare is going to be a force and that’s not telling anyone anything after her dominant Winx Stakes win at 1400m.
It’s just over seven weeks until the TAB Everest and it seems certain we will see Autumn Glow race on that day, it could be the feature or it could be the King Charles III over the mile.
Punter’s Intelligence data from the Winx only confirms what we know – the mare can put herself in a position behind a fast speed and sprint off it.
She’s run the race’s fastest last 600m of 33.63 and even though she was eased down late she’s posted the fastest last 200m as well of 11.79.
Her quickest sectional was from the 600m-400m where she’s run 10.81 and her 400m-200m of 11.03 was only 0.02 outside the race best. She has a lethal turn of foot and seeing her try to chase down Ka Ying Rising would be showstopping.
There were plenty of nice runs in the Winx Stakes and it shouldn’t be overlooked just how well Sheza Alibi performed with her sectionals only marginally slower than the winner.
She’s run 33.71 for the last 600m and 11.81 for the last 200m. It’d be equally as interesting to see her meet Autumn Glow again in a King Charles III when both are close to their peaks.
Both Ceolwulf and Idle Flyer showed they’ve come back in good order and with plenty of improvement to come. Ceolwulf ran the fastest 400m-200m of 11.01 before he just knocked up with 12.04 for the last 200m.
Idle Flyer ran 11.10 then 12.02 as she finished right alongside him.

James McDonald might have been a little tongue in cheek when he said ‘give her a slot’ in reference to three-year-old filly Pembrey after her Silver Shadow Stakes win but she did run a sizzling time for the 1200m.
Pembrey ran 1:08.74 leading all the way from an outside barrier, three lengths faster than the Show County for the Group 3 sprinters and six lengths faster than the Benchmark 78 meeting closer.
And she was able to get a small breather midrace before sprinting again.
On that performance she’ll be very hard to beat in the Furious Stakes over the same track and distance on September 5. Things could be a little more competitive with those behind her when the Tea Rose comes around after that.
It was hard to miss the run by Bangkok Hottie into second, she went back to last and had the job of looping the field and she covered more ground than any other runner in the race.
She’s run a smart 10.69 from the 400m-200m, that was more than two lengths faster than Pembrey, and her last 600m of 33.89 was just outside the race’s best. She’s looking for 1400m and the mile.
Global Goal, having just her second race start, posted the fastest last 600m of 33.83 and last 200m of 11.45 as she scooted along the fence, which was a little inferior, into third in a promising return from her.
It’s safe to say Apocalyptic has come back very well even though she wasn’t able to pick them up in the Toy Show Quality (1100m).
She’s run the meeting’s fastest last 600m of 33.01 after giving those on speed a big head start, 10.64 from the 400m-200m as she loomed up but just peaked running 11.64 for her last 200m.
Definitely at least a pass mark, perhaps at 1200m she can land a little closer. Take nothing away from Prima Bella, she was considered a small risk at 1100m but she was actually the strongest on the line with her last 200m of 11.58 the race’s best.
There’s a Midway in Isawyou’s future, the lightly raced gelding clocked a race best last 200m of 11.78 as he just failed to pick up the winner.
And watch out for Vexxy in something easier, she managed the fastest last 600m of 33.76 coming from the tail of the field and worth noting she is eligible for Class 1 races.
A few hard luck stories came out of the final event, a race run in a bunch with less than two lengths separating the first eight home.
Call Me Gorgeous ran seventh and posted 33.49 for the fastest last 600m while Annie’s Rose ran 33.54 including the fastest last 200m of 11.51 in sixth.
Fastest last 600m: Apocalyptic 33.01
