Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Verry Elleegant Stakes Day

She’s the star of the show at the moment and if you think Autumn Glow’s tenth successive win couldn’t have been any better just have a look at the clock.

The Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m) wasn’t exactly run at a strong tempo so the closing splits were always going to be pretty slick but for the unbeaten mare to post the meeting’s fastest last 600m and 200m in a mile race is exceptional.

Lindermann ran 50.13 for the first 800m but he didn’t take them into the race as far as usual as cardiac arrhythmia meant he was a spent force at he top of the straight.

Punter’s Intelligence data revealed the mare clocked 33.06 for her last 600m, 1-1/2 lengths faster than runner-up Aeliana who has gone enormously in her own right. She’s run 33.30 for her last 600m and that’s close to two lengths quicker than the next best.

Autumn Glow has run 11.08 for her last 200m but Aeliana did make her work for it running 11.11 for her own final split.

There was nothing wrong with the return of Sir Delius, he was outsprinted by the two mares but held third comfortably and will be more effective at 2000m.

Stayers Soul Of Spain (33.77) and Wootton Verni (33.58) have set themselves up to run well in easier races away from Group 1 weight-for-age.

The two-year-old puzzle didn’t get any clearer after the Sweet Embrace and Skyline Stakes.

The girls recorded a faster overall time and sprinted home much faster than the boys, while those overall times were average Screen Icon stood out as a horse to keep an eye on going forward.

She had no favours going back behind a moderate tempo in the Sweet Embrace and she’s run home in 34.49 which was easily the fastest of the race as she just failed to catch Spicy Miss.

The first 600m in the Sweet Embrace was 35.12, 1-1/2 lengths slower than the Skyline (34.92) and the difference had grown to almost two lengths when looking at the first 800m.

So they’ve scooted home more than two lengths quicker than the Skyline. Screen Icon’s last 200m of 12.01 was matched by Central Europe in the Skyline though he was coming off a slower run home.

Central Europe has run a last 600m of 34.56 which was 0.01 slower than the winner Campione D’Italia though it must be said the winner did a lot more work early after being slowly away.

Data wasn’t taken for the reigning Golden Slipper favourite Warwoven who ran fourth.

If the tracks can stay on the dry side through the autumn there has to be a race for Arctic Glamour after she sizzled in her first-up third in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m).

She’s clocked easily the fastest last 600m of 33.90, over two lengths quicker than the next best, as she charged from last with a last 200m of 11.66. The winner Verona Rose clocked the second quickest last 200m of 11.75.

Class prevailed in the other Group 1 with Tempted getting there in time to win the Surround Stakes.

She had to work for the win, running 33.83 for her last 600m which was over four lengths faster than Savvy Hallie who led and gave a big sight.

Tempted sprinted sharply with a 10.82 from the 400m-200m while her last 200m of 11.88 was also the quickest the larger drop off compared to the runner-up illustrates 1400m is as far as she wants at the top level.

A couple of first-up runs to note:

Portland is an import who had his first run for Matt Smith in the Liverpool City Cup (1300m), his first run for 18 months, and while the trip is well short of his best he’s run 34.44 for his last 600m which was the race’s fourth fastest. And he’s broken 12 seconds for the last 200m (11.97).

Charcoals has run a smart 33.73 for his last 600m in the United Resource Management Handicap (1200m) and he did it having to change course sharply. He ran 10.87 from the 400m-200m then 11.88 for his last 200m, 0.01 seconds off the race’s best.

Fastest last 600m: Autumn Glow 33.06
