Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Scone 14th May

Day two of the Scone Carnival saw Bring The Ransom cause a major boilover winning the feature Group 3 Arrowfield Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) after starting at $51 in the market.

The five-year-old mare was ridden a treat by apprentice Tyler Schiller who saved all the ground with a rail-hugging effort, and Punter’s Intelligence recorded she was strong to the line running the race’s fastest final 200m split in 11.72.

Majestic Shot led the field up at a genuine tempo, with the first 800m being run in 47.34, and the pace most suited those swooping.

Ultra-consistent mare Never Talk settled at the rear in the big field and made a long-wide sustained run to finish second. She ran the race’s fastest final 600m sectional in 34.35 and kept trying to the line.

Forgiving of the two well-fancied runners; Le Gai Soleil who ran the race fastest 600m-400m split in 11.35 but is more suited ridden to the outside of runners, and Brookspire was found to be lame.

We can bring strong comparisons with four events coming out of the back 1100m chute.

Smart two-year-old filly In Secret improved off her impressive debut run, winning the Vinery Woodlands Stakes (1100m) in style, and the clock backed it up. Further, the race rated highly relative to the day after adjusting for age, class and additional factors with decisive margins confirming the quality.

The Godolphin trained filly knuckled down over the final 400m and ran one of the fastest final splits of the entire meeting in 23.11 to gobble up her rivals. She has the traits of a top-tier two-year-old, is on an upwards ratings spiral and can step up again. Continue to follow.

Penthouse led them up at a good pace running the first 500m in 29.06, and she scooted away to run the race’s second-fastest 400m-200m split in 11.16 before tiring over the final furlong to finish third. She has the key attribute of natural pace and is suited over squib distances.

Second placegetter Golden Queen performed above market expectations and tried hard to the line running the race’s second-fastest final 200m sectional in 12.16. She can improve over further distance.

Two more runners suited over further distance finishing off well were Controlocracy who ran her final 200m sectional in 12.56 and Lady Harlem in 12.43.

Although there is only one turn coming out of the 1100m back chute Zapateo sat four wide in a solid tempo without cover off a 42-day break and was extremely brave winning the Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m).

The first 500m was run in 28.85, approximately 1-1.5 lengths faster than the Vinery Woodlands Stakes, 2.5-3 lengths quicker than the Emirates Park Ortensia Stakes (1100m), and a significant 8.5 lengths faster than the Yarraman Park benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m).

Even after being disadvantaged, the three-year-old filly ran one of the fastest final 400m-200m splits across the meeting in 10.86. She showed again she has come back, improved this preparation and is in career-best form.

A Very Fine Red’s final few bounds suggested she is ready to run a big race next start and posted the race’s fastest final 200m split in 11.76.

Albeit Comrade Rosa had the race run to suit, she just got too far back at an unsuitable distance and hit the line well, running the fastest final 600m of the race in 33.59. The step back up in distance with blinkers on again looks an ideal setup next start.

Dylan Gibbons controlled the pace of the race when giving Redoute’s Image all favours to win the Westpac Rescue Helicopter 3&4YO Benchmark 72 Handicap (1300m).

The race was run at a very slow tempo, with the first 700m being run in 43.17, and those settling worse than midfield were mathematically out of the race. However, there were multiple runs with merit in behind.

And We Danced resumed with the blinkers back on after trialling well and ran the quickest 400m-200m split in 10.70 of the entire meeting. Further, her peak figures have come second-up in her past two preparations and is one to follow over further distance.

Cotehele was honest in defeat after racing three wide without cover the trip and ran the equal second-fastest 400m-200m split of the race in 10.90. However, the wide run took its toll over the final furlong. He is screaming for a dry track where he produces all his peak figures.

Dynamic Impact hit the line hard after being not suited and ran the entire meeting’s fastest final 200m split in 11.47. He is another one that improves significantly second-up.

It’s worth noting Outlook looks ready to win third-up reaching optimal fitness in a similar grade after racing well in the Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1700m).

Fastest Final 600m: Vulpine 33.41.
