Neil Evans's Tips For Wyong Races (Thursday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail true for Heat 2 of the Sky Racing Summer Provincial Series meeting

Race 1 (1:25pm) WYONG EQUINE CLINIC 4YO & UP MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100m)

We open up with a small field of competitive sprinters, and all bar the topweight and top selection are 4YO's. Ultra consistent local 5YO 1. Jaytees ($2 favourite on TAB) has beaten all but the winner in four runs this prep, and draws to get a charmed run either leading or sitting just off. Trainer has backed him up quickly and again removed the blinkers. Golden chance to break through at 14th start.

Dangers: Zoustar 4YO 2. Nelspruit ($3.50) s an ominous threat and big market watch on debut for the Waterhouse-Bott stable after bolting in his latest trial at Wyong. Gap to the rest headed by 4YO 4. Glock ($4.20) who resumes with a tidy effort at Hawkesbury, and draws to park right behind the leader.

How to play it: Jaytees to win and quinella 1 and 2. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 (2:00pm) VALE JOHN MCDERMOTT CHAMPION CALLER & CHAMPION BLOKE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1350m)

This looks an ideal second-up race for progressive Warwick Farm 4YO 1. Big Lion ($3.60 fav) who didn't get much luck or room late resuming at Hawkesbury. Blinkers go on, and he's drawn to get a soft trail back on the inside.

Dangers: Improving 3YO 7. Zachariah ($4.20) has hit the line nicely in two of his last three runs when ridden further back and drawn to get a trail. Another 'Farm 3YO 6. Mission Bravo ($4.40) comes out of that same Hawkesbury race when holding his ground okay first-up and blinkers come off.

How to play it: Big Lion to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 3 (2:35pm) WYONG EQUINE CLINIC 4YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1600m)

Out to the mile for the older maidens, and it's a tricky map with the early fancies drawn the inside and outside barriers. Rosehill mare 9. Shamani ($2.80 fav) was impressive on debut at Kembla and defied her big price finishing hard from well back despite finding some trouble in transit. That was more than six weeks ago, but he's trialled since, and looks to have superior ability. Will again be ridden back from the gate.

Dangers: Intriguing starting point this campaign for 4YO staying mare 10. The Fringe ($3.60) who draws the fence. Debuted with a fair run at Queanbeyan over this trip back in early April before reaching 2600m at provincial BM 64 level. Bred to run all day, and has been fitted with two 1200m trials. Warwick Farm 5YO 7. Yes No Maybe So ($5), by Love Conquers All, is also on debut at the mile with blinkers on, off two handy trials. Home track 5YO 1. Mister Ripley ($6) has been placed in three of his last four although sneaking up in the weights.

How to play it: Shamani to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 (3:10pm) WYONG'S NEXT RACE MEETING THURS 10 DEC MDN PLATE (1000m)

Back to the short journey at set weights, and there's several on debut. US-bred 3YO 5.Stoltz ($2.30 fav) looked home for all money when heavily backed on debut at Canberra before pipped right on the line. Fitter and better suited on the tighter track, and senior metro rider goes on.

Dangers: Fellow American-bred 3YO 2. Arctic Rover ($8.50) has shown up in two trials and can be competitive on debut for an in-form trainer/rider combination. Ex-SA filly 12. Zouly ($3.20) has her first run for the Joe Pride stable off two trials and her trainer has removed the blinkers. Watch the betting on resuming 4YO 1. Pacific Ocean ($5.50) who has had two forward trials and was preferred here to the opening race.

How to play it: Stoltz to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 (3:50pm) NO EXCUSE FOR ABUSE - DOMESTIC & FAMILY VIOLENCE AWARENESS WEEK CLASS 1 HCP (1350m)

A few promising 3YOs on show here in a deep race. Always had plenty of time for talented Godolphin filly 8. Mollycoddle ($5.50) who swept through the middle for a dominant win at this track second-up. Taking on a few smarter ones, but banking on enough speed and pressure on up front to allow her to finish over the top.

Dangers: Improving 4YO 1. Amoretti ($4.20) can peak third-up out to this distance after charging home from last in a handy Class 1 at Kembla. Capable 4YO 4. Shadow Chaser ($3.90) was edged out late second-up in that same race at Kembla, but is drawn to do much less work here from the inside gate. Randwick colt 3. Edmond ($3.50 fav) got the job done second-up at Hawkesbury, and the third horse rates a big chance earlier in this meeting. Winkers have been applied. Improving 3YO 5. Mission Way ($10) led all the way first-up at Kembla in heavy ground, and the second horse then bolted in his maiden.

How to play it: Mollycoddle each-way and first four 1,4,8/1,3,4,5,8/1,3,4,5,8/1,3,4,5,8. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 (4:30pm) SKY RACING SUMMER PROVINCIAL SERIES (HT 2) - CL 5 PLATE (1350m)

Feature race of the day, and as you'd expect, there is a stack of chances. Keen on good class 5YO 1. Great Danger ($4.60) who will be hard to hold out second-up after working home nicely in a metro BM 72. Drawn to get plenty of cover around midfield, and at his best on drier tracks.

Dangers: Gosford mare 13. Wicked Wench ($3.90) has good natural ability and steps up in trip third-up. Weighted runner of the race dropping 5kg from a close second at BM 64 grade, although this won't be easy from a wider gate. Home track mare 10. Margie Bee ($10) has been mixing her form in and around this sort of grade, but she gets in light after a 3kg claim, and two of her four wins have come here. Local mare 3. Trajection ($3.70 fav) drops in grade and boasts a 30% winning strike rate from 17 starts, but second-up has been her Achilles Heel.

How to play it: Great Danger to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 7 (5:10pm) WYONG EQUINE CLINIC 4YO & UP BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1600m)

We close with another competitive and open battle over the mile. Like the value about 4YO mare 8. Segrill ($6) getting out to this distance second-up. Worked home late resuming in a handy BM 64 at Hawkesbury, and won only previous start here over this pet trip.

Dangers: Improving 4YO mare 2. Buba ($3.20 fav) is zeroing in another win after a strong second-up run over this distance at Hawkesbury. Local 4YO mare 9. My Desire ($7.50) looks well up to this after a dominant third-up on-speed Class 2 win at Port Macquarie when forced to cover ground. Despite being weighted to his best, expect 5YO 1. All Things ($9.50) to be finishing on late third-up rising in trip after a sound closing effort at Kembla; while 4YO mare 11. Rocquette ($15) can peak third-up at bigger odds also getting out to the mile.

How to play it: Segrill each-way and trifecta 2,8,9/1,2,8,9,11/1,2,8,9,11. Odds and Evens: Split
