Neil Evans' Tips For Wyong (Wednesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail true so should play fair, with slight leaning to on-pace.

Race 1 CL2 HCP (1000m):

Good competitive sprint to start. Warwick Farm mare 6. Walk The Runway was turned out after leading all the way on debut in Gosford when specked in the market, and has had two fair trials.

Dangers: Newcastle filly 4. Power Rush can be hard to catch and has been vulnerable late right through this prep, but was ridden a little quieter last start and draws a lovely gate to sit just off the pace. Rosehill gelding 2. Happy Bubbles didn't fire first-up at Hawkesbury when well backed, but expect big improvement here. Wyong mare 5. Venture Capital resumes off a lengthy break, but normally fires early in the prep, and has trialled impressively; while

How to play it: Walk The Runway to win; and trifecta 6/2-4-5.

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Keen on debutant Randwick gelding 6. So Yummy (Kuroshio x Mrs Beerman by Squadron Leader) whose been given plenty of time. Won a trial on the synthetic before showing early speed again in a longer trial when pushed right out. Tighter circuit will suit his style.

Dangers: Newcastle gelding 2. Power Lift is owned in the same interests as Power Rush, and looked sharp in a recent trial win. 1. Bravo Del Campos was down the track in all three runs in first prep, but took on some solid maiden company, although probably needs it wetter to figure in the finish. Include Port Macquarie filly and first starter 10. Pentagon (Myboycharlie x Miss Montire by Pentire) in exotics after a nice trial win at Newcastle.

How to play it: So Yummy to win.

So Yummy runs second in a Randwick trial on March 29

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Really liked the trial of resuming Godolphin filly 5. Arboreal who sat well back and cruised to the line under a hold. Failed to flatter in two heavy track runs at Kembla late last year, but looks better suited here on firmer ground.

Dangers: Debutant 2YO Wyong gelding 2. Right Bower (Show A Heart x Tender Truce by Brief Truce) made up many lengths in a recent Newcastle trial, and looks another free-striding type for leading juvenile stable. Warwick Farm mare 3. Impurity has run three straight seconds at Hawkesbury this prep always hitting the line from well back, but can settle a little closer here off the inside gate.

How to play it: Arboreal to win and quinella 2 and 5.

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1600m):

More open contest, although 3YO Rosehill gelding 1. Costas looks ready to win fourth-up off a strong finishing effort this trip at Hawkesbury when well backed. Only concern is best runs are on rain-affected ground.

Dangers: Luckless Coffs Harbour 4YO 2. Guest gets his chance to break a long run of placings at 13th start. Will go back from a wide draw, but drops in weight and can finish over the top. Randwick mare 4. Royal Anthem is another whose run a stack of placings getting back and hitting the line late so the extra trip will suit. Orange-trained 3YO 5. Well Decorated has run a string of seconds placings, and is clear best of the rest.

How to play it: Costas to win and box trifecta 1-2-4-5.

Race 5 MAIDEN PLATE (1350m):

One stable will feel significantly happier after this, with a combined 32 starts yielding just two placings! That said Randwick gelding 2. Dubai Harbour was solid resuming at Hawkesbury in a decent maiden, and will park on or near the speed and prove hard to beat second-up with the blinkers staying on.

Dangers: Expect big improvement second-up too from Warwick Farm filly 9. Romalette who got well back on debut at Hawkesbury. Better suited over this journey, and stable is going great guns. Watch the market on Goulburn gelding 4. Nobody's Perfect after campaigning okay in Victoria earlier in the year.

How to play it: Dubai Harbour to win.

Race 6 BM 64 HCP (1350m):

Tricky race, with a few chances. Keen on emerging Warwick Farm 3YO 7. Showminder who gets to a better trip after resuming with a fair effort behind a smart one at Gosford. Has a second-up win, and ran good horses Spring Charlie and Gayatri to around two lengths in the spring.

Dangers: Wyong 5YO gelding 1. Mo The Great resumed off a heavy track trial win at Newcastle, and while this is short of his best, does have a first-up win. Newcastle mare 4. I Am Awesome also resumes off two fair trials, but does come to hand quickly, and in well at the weights after rider's claim; while Newcastle mare 9. High Rush resumed with an all the way win in a BM 58 at Scone, and the second horse has since won. This is tougher, but she's well drawn and down in weight.

How to play it: Showminder to win and box trifecta 1-4-7-9.

Race 7 CL4 HCP (1600m):

Plenty of depth here. Talented Wellington gelding 2. Potent Force beat a smart one at Mudgee two runs back, and then just missed in the Wellington Cup. Up significantly in weight, but looks to have more scope than most of these.

Dangers: Lightly raced Coffs Harbour gelding 5. Evopex has had two good closing runs this prep in good company, and should be ready to peak third-up. Won a Randwick Highway in the spring over this trip. Gosford mare 4. Wild About Her is building a nice record. Flew home late resuming this track, and won second up over the mile last prep. Newcastle 3YO 3. Salsa Man is back in a more suitable race on firmer ground after beaten a mile in a much stronger Provincial C'ship Qualifying Heat. Did finish hard to win a BM 64 this track three runs back. Randwick mare 1. Tinkermosa upset a good field at big odds three runs back and stuck on okay in the Wellington Cup; but almost looks weighted out with 61kg.

How to play it: Potent Force each way and first four 2-4-5/1-2-3-4-5.

Race 8 BM 64 HCP (2100m):

Tough finish for the stayers. Randwick mare 4. Diamond Star Halo takes on tougher company, but was strong all the way from the front at Gosford over this trip, draws the fence, and rider claims 2kg.

Dangers: Newcastle gelding 1. Nothing Too Hard has found the line all prep under big weights without really threatening, but gets his chance carrying a little less. Randwick 3YO 3. Home Made mixes form, but looking for this trip dropping back from the much stronger Group 3 Carbine Club.

How to play it: Diamond Star Halo to win.
