Neil Evans' Tips For Kembla Grange (Tuesday)

Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and Rail out 3m from 1100m to WP so should play fairly even

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Intriguing race despite the small field. Very keen on Flemington-based filly 4. Statuesquely for leading juvenile stable who was hard in the market when debuting with an even run over same trip at Newcastle in a deeper maiden, and with that experience, looks the clear one to beat.

Dangers: Local 3YO gelding 3. Auburn Boy has finished well in his last two, and at peak now this prep. Rosehill 2YO colt 5. Rammstein has mixed his runs in first prep, but draws a nice trailing gate for leading trainer/rider combination. Include Warwick Farm filly 6. Benfica Maid in the exotics after two fair runs back from a spell; while debutant Randwick 3YO gelding 2. Volcanic (Al Maher x Mountain by Sequalo) hasn't shown much at the trials, but draws the inside and jockey is flying.

How to play it: Statuesquely to win and first four 4/3-5/2-3-5-6.

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1200m):

Tricky affair, with one burning question! Can local 5YO mare 9. Speed And Style break a freakish run of close second placings in a set weights maiden seemingly with more depth and quality? Has been virtually pipped all year primarily sitting on speed, and is drawn out here, and will probably be forced to eyeball smart Randwick-trained trial-winning filly 7. Lucknow Lady (Sepoy x Plastic Fantastic by Fastnet Rock) who looks ready to go on debut.

Dangers: Godolphin filly 5. Chantaresse has had three solid runs now in first prep, and was strong late behind a smart one at Scone over the carnival.

How to play it: Lucknow Lady each way and box trifecta 5-7-9.

Race 3 2YO MAIDEN HCP (1000m):

Open battle for the youngsters and dominated by first starters, headed by Hawkesbury filly 9. Switched (All Too Hard x Sherbet Bomb by Snitzel) who has been given a stack of time through the trials, winning her most recent at Rosehill in smart time and looks well over the odds.

Dangers: Warwick Farm colt 4. Matowatakpe (Dream Ahead x Catseye Beach by Catbird) is out of a dam by a former Golden Slipper winner. Has looked sharp in three trials, and stable has smart juvenile record. Well bred Hawkesbury filly and stablemate 7. Night Flyer (All Too Hard x Night War by General Nediym) also trialled well ahead of debut, showing natural gears. Randwick colt 5. Rocketing To Win is well-named, making up a tonne of ground resuming at Newcastle in a decent maiden, and should improve further; while Rosehill colt 1. Blue Tattoo (Snitzel x Angel Smoke by Smoke Glacken) has been taken along slowly at the trials, but stable is going well.

How to play it: Switched each way and first four 4-7-9/1-4-5-7-9

Race 4 CL1 HCP (1600m):

Keen here on Randwick 3YO filly 4. Miss Louisiana who has hit the line hard in three runs this prep, last start making up plenty of late ground in a good quality BM 64 under 59kg. Leading metro hoop jumps aboard, and this looks a shade easier.

Dangers: Local 5YO mare 7. Valley Of Light was ridden quieter last start and finished hard in a good Wagga Class 1, splitting two gallopers who have both since won. Warwick Farm 5YO 3. Counterfeited improved to win his maiden fourth-up at Newcastle, but would need to improve further to win this.

How to play it: Miss Louisiana to win and quinella 4 and 7.

Miss Louisiana runs fifth at Newcastle on May 7

Race 5 METRO & PROV MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Open and competitive again, but Warwick Farm 3YO gelding 5. Provocative Man looks the one with superior progression, flashing home late as an odds-on favourite at Wagga, and draws to coil up back in the field with cover, and charge over the top late.

Dangers: Randwick 2YO filly 11. Foxborough is closing is on a win after a nice closing effort at Wyong last start. Randwick colt 3. De Valera hasn't yet recaptured his form from the spring, but the extra trip third-up suits, although another one not well treated at the weights. Expect improvement from Rosehill 3YO filly 6. Aravina who debuted with a modest effort at Newcastle, but extra trip a little plus second-up for top Sydney stable.

How to play it: Provocative Man each way.

Provocative Man's last start fifth at Wagga on May 2

Race 6 F & M BM 64 HCP (1200m):

Rosehill 3YO filly 1. Unguarded is knocking on the door back in grade after working home strongly third-up at Randwick. Has paid the price sharply in weight from the handicapper, but 3kg claimer was booked quick smart.

Dangers: Loved the final 150m from Randwick filly 3. Loved One winning on resumption in a Class 1 at Newcastle, although also up in weight and didn't fire last prep second-up. Warwick Farm mare 2. Buffy normally comes to hand quickly in the prep, and trialled okay after resuming with a solid effort this grade and track a month back; while neighbourly mare 7. Hylonome gets an economic run midfield from the inside draw third-up, and comes out of strong enough races to be in the finish.

How to play it: Unguarded to win and box trifecta 1-2-3-7.

Race 7 C, G & E BM 64 HCP (1200m):

Now the boys' turn to wrap the card, Warwick Farm 3YO gelding 3. Lancaster Bomber made some late ground resuming in a BM 70 at Canterbury, and should improve again second-up.

Dangers: Randwick-trained 4. Battle Cry resumes off two smart trials, and did score a dominant maiden win first-up last prep, but right up in weight and drawn wide. Local 5YO gelding 5. Flash Fibian is another who has been finishing strongly in better company.

How to play it: Lancaster Bomber to win.
