The Stablehand Job Ready Program is a free, three-week practical program designed to give participants the skills, experience and confidence to take the next step towards employment in a professional racing stable.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in:

• Racehorse handling and behaviour
• Preparing horses for trackwork
• Racing stable routines and operations
• Grooming, feeding and daily horse care
• Horse welfare and workplace safety
• Working as part of a professional racing stable team

The first two weeks are designed to replicate the routines and expectations of a working racing stable, helping participants understand how a stable operates before putting those skills into practice during their one-week industry placement.

Following the training component, participants will complete work experience with a racehorse trainer, with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, attitude and reliability in a real workplace.

Where there is a suitable fit, the aim is for participants to progress into employment and potentially continue their training through a Certificate III in Racing (Stablehand) traineeship.

Places are limited to 10 participants for the September intake, with applicants selected through an Expression of Interest process.
