Racing Mates will visit Murrumbidgee Turf Club (MTC) on Sunday 29 March headlining the day with a trackside BBQ Get Together for Southern Districts racing participants during the afternoon’s race meeting.

Established in 2016, Racing Mates provides peer-to-peer support for trainers, jockeys, stablehands, and officials across New South Wales.

These regional BBQ events serve as a vital platform for fostering camaraderie and mental health awareness within the fast-paced racing industry.

In conjunction with the Wagga Wagga visit, Racing Mates is thrilled to announce the appointment of Jason Ferrario, CEO of Murrumbidgee Turf Club, as its newest program ambassador.

Jason is a highly respected figure in the Riverina community, known not only for his leadership at the MTC but for his profound commitment to charitable causes.

His dedication to supporting others is best exemplified by his involvement in The Big Three Trek, a gruelling 150km charity walk from Sydney to Newcastle.

Jason has competed in the walk in 2024 and 2025 and will be joining in again in 2026 during Beanies For Brain Cancer Round in the NRL from June 26-28.

Inspired by the memory of his brother Rick, who battled brain cancer and sadly passed away in 2009 aged only 42, Jason has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Mark Hughes Foundation alongside his ‘Trek Family’.

Across the two years, Jason has personally raised $48,000 toward brain cancer research, awareness and patient support.

His "mates looking out for mates" philosophy perfectly aligns with the mission of Racing Mates.

"We are delighted to bring Racing Mates back to Wagga Wagga and officially welcome Jason Ferrario to the Racing Mates team," said Racing NSW's General Manager-Participant Welfare, Phillip O’Brien.

"Jason’s incredible work with his charity walks shows he truly understands the importance of looking out for one another, and we look forward to him sharing that passion with the local racing community."

The Racing Mates Wagga BBQ Get-Together will be hosted prior to the start of the race meeting from 11.30am.
