Promising Black Jacamar To Take Next Step At Port (Tuesday)

By Rod Fuller

Promising recent efforts by Black Jacamar have provided every indication the filly is ready to handle her most serious test to date in the Class 2 Handicap at Port Macquarie on Tuesday.

The daughter of Dream Ahead broke her maiden status on Kempsey Cup day last November when accounting for Little Archie by around a length before heading towards the spelling paddock.

Trainer Kim Waugh

With two provincial trials under her belt, the Kim Waugh-trained filly returned to the track a fortnight ago and provided a dominant performance when leading throughout and surviving the late challenges of Son of Sampson and Oh Say to score by just under a length.

This was Black Jacamar’s third official start and a record of two victories and a placing provides plenty of encouragement for a strong performance in this latest assignment.

The query runner is Lord Avatar with the Jenny Graham-trained gelding having his first official start since a fifth behind Constanzia at Cessnock last June.

The son of Poet’s Voice was responsible for a solid recent barrier trial win over Hellenism at Taree earlier in the month and many keen form students are convinced the gelding possessed the fitness level necessary to be competitive.

The other main danger in the race centres around Beyond Mars with the former Victorian responsible for a barrier trial victory at the Port track a month ago under new trainer, Alan Hayden.

With all indications centring around the prominent performance of Black Jacamar in the event, this could provide a strong lead for Oh Say in the Great Northern Super Crisp Class 1 Handicap later in the program.

The Starspangledbanner filly broke her maiden status at the track a month ago when accounting for Mr Pointer with the form around this event proving solid as the Greg McFarlane trained placegetter landed the prize last week at Grafton.

With the recent third at Taree under her belt, Oh Say is poised to provide the Neil Godbolt trained chestnut filly with success in the event while Impulse Control is looming as the obvious danger.

Nathan Doyle puts the polish on Impulse Control with the lightly raced daughter of Exceed and Excel possessing a strong record at the Port track and will benefit from a recent Newcastle trial in preparation for the assignment.

Lookonchina is set for victory in the opening event following recent placings at Grafton while the same can be said for the Margaret De Gonneville trained filly, Golden Fantasy, in the Schweppes Maiden Plate following a spate of recent minor placings on Northern Rivers tracks.

The Port racing complex continues to be a COVID-19 safe venue and it is important to follow all the procedures and guidelines applicable with everyone encouraged to download the Services NSW app prior to attending to make entry easier.

General admission tickets are available on raceday and further details regarding tickets and seating arrangements in the Livermore Stand and Clydesdale Room are available by contacting the club on 02 6581 1964 or email on admin@portmacquarieraceclub.com.au

If you have cold or flu like symptoms, such as a cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath or runny nose, even if these are mild, you will not be permitted to the course and you should get tested for COVID-19 as soon as possible.

Races on the program carry the names of De Bortoli Wines, John Oxley Motors, Great Northern, Schweppes, Fisher’s Plumbing Plus and Prime 7 with the club encouraging everyone to support these fine products.

Punters will be able to follow all the action of the local program together with full coverage of supporting programs from around Australia through the screens of Sky Racing with comprehensive trackside wagering facilities available.
