Neil Evans' Tips For Taree (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track heavy 8 and rail out 3m

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1250m):

The maidens get us rolling on an improving track that should get back to soft range. Provincial mare 8. Toguchi is ready to break through third-up this prep. Not far away in a stronger provincial maiden last time, and draws to get an ideal trail just off the speed.

Dangers: Improving three-year-old 3. Deora was beaten a long way at Gosford second-up, but he was strong enough through the line in a much deeper field, and the winner would beat these with his legs tied up. Must include Coffs filly 7. Kiani who boxed on okay second-up after a torrid run from the gate, and draws much better here.

How to play it: Toguchi to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 CLASS 3 HCP (1000m):

Progressive filly 3. Nicci Trix is a two-time winner from just five starts, and also has early pace. Fought on okay resuming behind a handy one, and second-up last spring won by nearly five lengths.

Dangers: Gap to the rest headed by eight-year-old 4. Neretva who draws the inside in ground he prefers; while 5. Crowned Empress resumes from a nice barrier.

How to play it: Nicci Trix to win and trifecta 3/4,5/4,5. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 3 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1600m):

Always testing affairs around this grade over the mile. Provincial mare 6. Apache Belle is hard fit well into her prep, and didn't get much room when it counted in a similar race last start when finding the line late.

Dangers: Tough local mare 8. Hold All Tickets finished best to finally win a third race from 49 starts, and she can be competitive again from a soft draw. Another one trained on track 1. Casarina is poorly in at the top of the weights, but drops in grade and trip; while 3. Nashian finds a slightly easier race, with blinkers off.

How to play it: Apache Belle to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Tough maiden, although provincial mare 11. Miss Twenty Twenty can break through second-up at her 23rd start. Worked home nicely resuming in a race with more depth, and extra ground and softer track are big pluses.

Dangers: Progressive 4. Mr Magsman returned off a long break with a strong finishing effort at big odds in front of the top selection, and drawn to get cover with blinkers coming off. Provincial filly 5. All At Sea drops back from two much tougher maidens, but still needs to find a length or two; while keeping safe two-year-old 8. Thunder Knob who sneaks down in the weights, and gets blinkers added.

How to play it: Miss Twenty Twenty to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Emerging filly 10. Lovetheinvasion can peak third-up. Well treated carrying 1kg less dropping back to country level, and drawn to find a cosy run on speed. The wetter the better.

Dangers: Progressive three-year-old 4. Ferlaxing is three weeks between runs since charging home for a dominant maiden win in heavy ground. Bred to get even further, and loves it rain-affected. Gap to the rest headed by local 6. Ramsey's Law who was good late in a handy CL1 here; while included in exotics 8. Salamangkera third-up from the inside gate.

How to play it: Lovetheinvasion to win and quinella 4 and 10. Odds and Evens: Evens a special

Lovetheinvasion runs fourth at Wyong on April 29

Race 6 CLASS 1 HCP (1250m):

Progressive So You Think filly 8. Sancta is good value at her fourth start in a wide open race. Burst through to win her maiden as an odds-on favourite, and will park just off the speed with a trail.

Dangers: Consistent local three-year-old 1. Being Naughty thrashed a handy maiden field two runs back before sticking on well in a similar race. Drawn to be in the finish. Another filly first-up is well bred 11. Loose Buttons who was a heavy track winner here in early January before spelling, and has been fitted with two trials.

How to play it: Sancta to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1400m):

Good battle to finish. Keen on promising mare 5. Sarah Elizabeth over more ground second-up. Found the line well after blowing the start first-up in a handy CL2. Has a superior turn off foot, and destined for better races.

Dangers: Wyong rival 6. Thiswilldous rarely puts in a bad one, and loves rain-affected ground. Drawn to either lead or sit right behind. Keep safe 1. Dreaming Of Gold who draws a soft gate, and drops back from a deeper provincial race.

How to play it: Sarah Elizabeth to win. Odds and Evens: Split
