Neil Evans' Tips For Dubbo (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail out 6m from 900m to 400m & true the remainder:

Race 1 - 2:10PM BEN WALKER & SARAH MASONWELLS APPRECIATION BM58 (2218M)

6. Tropicana's Cube is hard fit, and gets his chance in a weak race after the early clear fancy came out. Hasn't had much luck in the run over shorter trips, and was competitive in much better races than this earlier in the prep. 4. Dunedin is fit and trained on the course, and also drops in class. 7. Shylock is a capable veteran who finds a thinner BM 58 well into the campaign. 1. Wil To Excel has been given four weeks between runs over a shade further, and still racing okay for a 10-year-old.

How to play it: Tropicana's Cube to win

Race 2 - 2:45PM ANDY SINGLE APPRECIATION BM66 HANDICAP (1418 METRES)

3. Shadow Dane is a very honest home tracker well placed for a third win deep into the prep. Swept home to win in lesser grade before a fair effort from an awkward spot in a deeper BM 66 here. Then beaten only a head in similar company at Tamworth three weeks back. Back a furlong in trip from a soft draw where he can settle a little closer in the run, he only needs a clear crack over the final 350m. 1. Burrowa is a tough Canberra sprinter who has won his last two, and shown a real ability to fight hard and hit the line under pressure. Doubt the winner comes from anywhere else, but keep safe 2. Awesome Tycoon who has been freshened since a fighting fourth-up win in similar company; while 7. Miss Bariloche is another one trained on the track who improves sharply over further.

Race 3 - 3:20PM MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA MAIDEN HANDICAP (1318 METRES)

8. Vicious Rumour is an underrated stablemate of the previous on top selection who has only missed a place once in her last four. Stuck on strong at Wellington before being beaten by a promising one at Bathurst just before Xmas. Back at home on the bigger circuit & drawn to get to the outside, she can finish over them in what is now a weakened race. 9. Zecchini who is second-up over a longer trip, and locally-trained 2. Codonas, also improving second-up over further, can fight for the quinella spot

How to play it: Vicious Rumour to win

Race 4 - 3:55PM INLAND PETROLEUM MAIDEN PLATE (1018 METRES)

7. Devilish Sun is an emerging three-year-old primed to break through at his second start. Was long odds when making up plenty of ground on debut behind a dominant & smart winner who then was only beaten a nose in Saturday company. Bred to get further; but from a more economical draw where he can settle closer, only needs clear air from the 350m to run over them. 6. The Contractor is the clear threat, resuming for a handy country stable with blinkers back on. Was in and around the money in some handy maidens last prep, and can come to hand sharply despite not having officially trialled. 9. Just Joan is deep into her prep, fading late after chasing a promising winner last start. 11. Star Whisperer has natural speed, and is a clear second start improver.

How to play it: Devilish Sun to win

Race 5 - 4:35PM DUBBO CITY & GILGANDRA TOYOTA C1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1618 METRES)

1. Elite Power is suited fourth-up in only his 2nd prep off a quick turnaround, and can cap a big day for the Michael Mulholland stable. Powered home for a dominant maiden win fresh before being ridden from further back and making up plenty of ground. He then ran home hard in deeper class at Orange six days ago which augurs well for this on his first outing at home. Further boosted with a key rival being preferred at Wagga on Sunday. 5. Yorkel is a solid improver, banging on the door fourth-up with some weight relief. 7. Sabatina is very honest having not missed a place in her last five. 8. Take The Chance fifth-up goes in all wider exotic plays.

How to play it: Elite Power to win

Race 6 - 5:10PM JOHN DE LYALL APPRECIATION BM66 HANDICAP (1018 METRES)

7. Press Forward is a tough home tracker who can go back-to-back fourth-up rising in grade. Was backed from $4.80 into $3.40 when finishing hard to miss narrowly here in a handy BM 58 before flashing home to score against similar opposition. Taking on some better ones, but has never raced better; drawn to cover and gets good weight relief after the jockey's claim. 6. Wasted Days is an improving stablemate drawn to get a soft run inside. Is a major threat having tackled better races last campaign, and was scratched from Saturday's much deeper Wyong meeting to be saved for this. 3. Brief Statement is on an eight day back-up dropping in grade. 8. Canamble is over the odds coming off a long-priced and gallant CL3 win at Scone a month back. 12. Rock 'N' Reign is another each way value chance if he gets a run; and can boost trifecta and first four returns.

How to play it: Press Forward to win

Race 7 - 5:45PM LOCAL SEARCH CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1318 METRES)

4. Hannah's Bridge is a lightly raced mare set to go back-to-back up a shade in distance off a six week freshen. Boxed on well resuming here in a handy CL1 before sweeping home to trounce a better field at Muswellbrook. Given a let-up via a soft trial win; and this is back around her pet trip. Can settle just off the speed before being given her head over the final 400m. 1. Romantic Love is a tough local who has been in and around the money against similar opposition all prep. 3. Tom Vegas is a talented three-year-old who twice tackled Group 3 company last campaign, and big watch resuming with gear changes off a quiet trial. 13. State Of Grace is trained on the course, and has been in the money all four runs this prep; while watching the market on progressive 2. Silent Ace resuming from a wide gate behind a steady trial.

How to play it: Hannah's Bridge to win
