Neil Evans' Tips For Corowa (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail true

Race 1 - 2:10PM COROWA CHAFF MILL MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

6. Neeson is a lightly raced and promising three-year-old who has this at his mercy from the inside draw. Came off a lengthy break and solid closing debut to miss by a length as a hot favourite in a deeper maiden 15 days ago. With that experience, better fitness and a furlong further, he only needs a clear run from top of the straight to win. 5. Go Commando is a son of Savabeel, and stablemate of the top selection making his debut debut behind two improving trials. 1. Commanding Shadow is hard fit deep into the campaign, and drawn to get a nice run with cover just off the speed. Gap to the rest.

How to play it: Neeson to win

Race 2 - 2:45PM VALE BRIAN SCOLYER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Cayman Island is a steady improver who finds a thin race third-up getting to the mile. Stuck on well to beat all bar the winner in a much better maiden at Albury only eight days ago, and right on track to peak in this. 4. Tallingas Petey is a third start Victorian improver finding a race with less depth. 8. Lull Us Away is progressive enough, and also banging on the door well into the campaign. Comes through that same Albury race as the top selection when making late ground. 7. If You Can improves third-up over more ground, and down sharply in weight. 1. Highland Lad is better suited dropping sharply back to this trip deep into the prep.

How to play it: Cayman Island to win

Race 3 - 3:25PM PICKLED SISTERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

8. Colombiano is an honest Albury mare who can go back-to-back third-up over further at good odds. Ran home to miss narrowly in a handy maiden two starts back before dominating just eight days ago when backed from $3.00 into $2.30. In good hands, and now that he’s broken through, can carry on from a nice on speed draw. 1. Rentessis is a Victorian visitor who looms as big threat second-up from a soft draw after being beaten less than a length in a stronger race at Bendigo. Bolted in his winter debut, and likely to jump clear favourite here. 2. Hellberg is another one from over the border who has been in and around the money all prep, although has a poor strike rate from 15 starts. Watch the betting on lightly raced 4. National Asset who came from last to score a shock upset on debut at huge odds in a Forbes maiden.

How to play it: Colombiano to win

Race 4 - 4:05PM BEERS AND BIRDIES DASH MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

7. Lord Limerick is the one to beat from the inside draw in a weakened race. Made up plenty of late ground in a deeper maiden at Albury after being supported from $3.10 in to $2.50. 2. Forte Cheval is a lightly raced improver who gets winkers added third-up. Was beaten nearly four lengths after leading by the on top selection in the previous race so a form pointer looms. 3. Induction is a Victorian four-year-old by Holler on debut behind two easy trials. 1. Air Control is a market watch resuming with a string of gear changes behind a quiet trial; while 8. Calais Bliss is sparingly raced, and can run in to the minor money.

How to play it: Lord Limerick to win

Race 5 - 4:40PM FEDERATION STAKES CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

1. You're Two Vain can hop the border and keep his unbeaten record intact from three starts. Showed superior speed to bolt in two starts to launch his career on both soft and firm ground. Carries his biggest weight from the outside barrier here, but is headed for bigger sprint classes than this lot. 2. Master Of Disguise is a third-up improver dropping back from tougher metropolitan grade. Be surprised if the winner comes from outside those two, but 4. Hellinda is hard fit well into the campaign, and comes off a tough country BM 66 win. 6. Baggage Handler resuming, and 8. Bridie’s Luck third-up after a fighting and close-up effort in a deeper CL3 Highway Randwick; both go in trifecta and first four plays.

How to play it: You’re So Vain to win

Race 6 - 5:15PM NAUGHTIN DEVELOPMENTS BM58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

9. Perfume River is an underrated Victorian mare over the odds fourth-up on a six day turnaround in a moderate and open race. Run was better than it looked last start sticking on into a place after doing plenty of work from the gate. This is her pet trip, and while she still only has that maiden win from early winter, has been in the money eight other times. 1. Sheer Lunacy is an honest Victorian who mixes form, but found his best from off speed to claim a week race over the border, and is on a quick back-up. 3. Switch Hill is another last start Victorian winner in weaker company. 4. Keith third-up with a significant jockey change, and 7. Saint Loft fourth-up; can both run into the minor money.

How to play it: Perfume River each way

Race 7 - 5:55PM CARLTON UNITED BREWERIES BM58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

3. Light Foot is a talented mare and the most progressive runner in the closer. Primed to take her winning strike rate to 50 percent from six starts after finishing close up in a deeper CL3 at Albury when reloading off a 29 week break. 1. Astunner will be hard to hold out third-up dropping down from much deeper BM 74 level when beaten less than a length. Keep safe 2. Menzah One staying at the distance third-up. 4. Tycoon Artie is an each way chance third-up from a sound cover draw; while 8. Jaskier is hard fit and the best of the rest.

How to play it: Light Foot to win

BEST BETS:
R4 7. LORD LIMERICK
R7 3. LIGHT FOOT
