Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Narrandera meeting. Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1 - 11:55AM WIN TV & WAGGA RACING SUPPORTERS CLUB MAIDEN (1400 METRES)
---
1. Siyassi seems to have found a nice race to break through at his fourth career start. Has improved with each run and boxed on well from on speed to hold down second at Wangaratta last week. On the back up but drawn the inside and clearly the horse to beat.
Dangers: 12. Tsarina Diamonds has a barrier for the first time in a few starts and might have the chance to improve now. Even effort two starts back when leading but never really a hope at Moruya. Down 4kg and has claims. 9. Sensesational Star ran the best race of her career to date when resuming at Albury a couple of weeks ago, even though safely held in third. Needs to back it up and if she does she’s a place chance again. 6. Flying Betty has had a few chances as well and on her placing a couple of starts back at Wagga she can show up from a better draw than last time.
How to play it: Siyassi WIN ($1.75 TAB Fixed Odds).
Race 2 - 12:35PM LEETON TOYOTA F&M BM58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
---
6. Roonami can be forgiven for a well below par run at Sapphire Coast a month ago and the freshen up might be a plus. Did the job well to score a maiden win prior to that at Goulburn, draw gives her an opportunity to bounce back. Each-way chance.
Dangers: 8. Jenni Divine likely didn’t handle the heavy 10 at Wagga last start and while she’s one from 18 she put a couple of handy placings together. Might be able to go forward again up in distance and worth another chance. 2. Kelilah fought them off to score at Dubbo on heavy ground a month ago before disappointing at the same track. Beat Jenni Divine in that win two back so stays under notice. 3. Legendary Diva sprung to form with a strong finish at big odds to break through at Corowa six weeks ago. Chance to go on with it.
How to play it: Roonami EACH-WAY ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
Race 3 - 1:15PM DUSTY HOOVES MEDIA STAYERS CUP BM66 HANDICAP (2100 METRES)
---
2. County Kilkenny has been thereabouts without winning of late and he stayed on for a placing at Wagga a week ago when out to 2000m. May appreciate getting away from a heavy track and in an open race should run well.
Dangers: 1. Star Blazer ran fifth in the same race and just held his ground in the run home. Down 1.5kg in the weights after a claim and previous form is good enough to have him competitive. 7. Cayman Island is one from 24 but is another around the mark of late and steps up in distance after an even fourth at Albury over a mile. No surprise to see him figure in the finish somewhere. 6. First Day has won at 2050m and she’s been around the placings in her last couple too. May not have appreciated leading last time.
How to play it: County Kilkenny WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).
Race 4 - 1:55PM EURELL'S NARRANDERA & YAMAHA GOLF CARS NARRUNGDERA YARRAMAN SPRINT BENCHMARK 74 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
---
1. Big Day Out beat a handy one when resuming at Wagga last week in his first ever win first-up from a break. Given he generally comes on with a run and he’s down a notch in grade he can only be better for it and is a winner at this track previously. Go well.
Dangers: 2. Brenlyn’s Legacy went through the grades quickly last preparation stringing four wins together then form tapered off up in class. He returns with a couple of jump outs under his belt and if he finds his early form from last prep then he’s hard to beat. 4. Aegipan comes through the same Moruya race, he led there off a wide gate and weakened out late behind the placings. Drawn kindly and could improve.
How to play it: Big Day Out EACH-WAY ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
Race 5 - 2:35PM CHEMSAVE NARRANDERA PHARMACY SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1000M)
---
4. Winter Hail probably holds the key to this race, he came up a short price on the back of an easy Wagga trial win leading in. Ran some nice races last prep without winning but lands in a race you’d expect him to be a major player in.
Dangers: 3. Thirsty For More is a first starter from the Joseph Jones camp and bears close watching on debut from an inside gate with the claim. Took on open class horses in latest trial, won’t surprise if he’s competitive. 2. Inzain Baby is yet to place in five starts but hasn’t been too far away though the margin last start is exacerbated by a runaway winner. Will need some luck from the gate but chance to improve. 6. Coachella Lass is a market watch first-up off a Wangaratta jump out a few weeks back. Midfield in two runs in her first prep and could show up.
How to play it: Winter Hail WIN ($1.65 TAB Fixed Odds).
Race 6 - 3:15PM NARRANDERA EX-SERVICEMENS CLUB CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
---
3. Triptolemus is lightly raced with only five starts to his name and resumes in blinkers after finishing close up at Canberra back in February. Was due to run last week at an abandoned meeting so had an extra week of fitness and should give a good account fresh.
Dangers: 6. Andres Girl is a two-year-old taking on older horses after an easy win against her own age at Wagga a month ago. Looked quite impressive in that win and she could back it up. 1. Made Easy had a handy first preparation winning two of his three starts and has trialled recently. Comes off a decent layoff of seven months but bears close watching.
How to play it: Triptolemus WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds).
Race 7 - 3:55PM BENDIGO COMMUNITY BANK NARRANDERA CUP (1600 METRES)
---
***BIG DANCE ELIGIBILITY***
7. Hot Bandit won this race last year and seems to be going at least as well ahead of this race. Placed at Warwick Farm two runs ago before stepping to the mile and have to say he was a pass mark there. Gets down in the weights and is at least an each-way hope.
Dangers: 5. Yam has a handy record and was a Caulfield winner three runs back at midweek level before placing in Adelaide. Far from disgraced up in class at Rosehill a couple of weeks ago and looks a good chance. 8. Make It Sweet also raced at that Rosehill meeting running midfield behind Surf’s Up, she made some ground from the back there. Looks a definite threat. 4. Boltsaver has some solid Victorian form though doesn't win out of turn. Close up in the Winter Championship at Flemington last time. Chance with luck from the gate.
How to play it: Hot Bandit EACH-WAY ($7.50 TAB Fixed Odds).
Race 8 - 4:35PM ELDERS COLEAMBALLY CG&E BM58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
---
1. Missile Defence found the right spot at Goulburn last time and powered right away late for an impressive win. He’s racing in peak form at the moment, this is no harder despite creeping up further in the weights. Hard to beat.
Dangers: 2. Vasala looked to be run off his feet at 1000m first-up for the new stable at this track a month ago. Distance here suits better and blinkers go on too. No surprise to see a sharp lift. 3. Ischyros has been battling a bit for form but three of his last four runs have been in Highways. Shade disappointing at Goulburn but back in class again and could fare better. 5. King Incanto is hovering around a win with placings at his last three runs. Odds-on when outpointed at Wangaratta a week ago but sure to be competitive again.
How to play it: Missile Defence WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).
