Racing NSW Stewards opened an inquiry on 26 March 2025 into an incident that occurred on 12 February 2025 at Taree Racecourse, where Reateros, trained by licensed trainer Mr Wayne Wilkes sustained an injury during trackwork and displayed an obvious gait abnormality before being led approximately 400 metres back to the stable.
On 7 July 2025, Stewards found Mr Wilkes guilty of a breach of AR231(1)(b)(ii), and imposed a four-month suspension, which he subsequently appealed.
On 23 February 2026, the Appeal Panel dismissed the appeal against the finding of guilt, and on 17 April 2026 confirmed the four-month suspension.
Mr Wilkes, assisted by solicitor Mr Joe Bryant, has lodged a further appeal with the Racing Appeals Tribunal. A stay of proceedings has been granted pending determination of that appeal.
