Tide Has Turned For Bateup Stable (Kembla, Saturday)

Kembla Grange trainer Theresa Bateup had a career-best three wins at the Sapphire Coast last Sunday and will look to continue that momentum on home turf with Burden Of Proof and Uno Best on Saturday.

Bateup took the first three races at the Sapphire Coast with Sunday Poet, Tsnumi Alert and Jarrett and had three other placings.

“It was a great day and it broke a frustrating run of placings,” Bateup said.

“The horses have been going great but just haven’t been winning, so to have a treble it feels like the tide turned.”

Bateup will drop back handy three-year-old filly Burden Of Proof in grade in the Markey Saddery Provincial Handicap at Kembla after she was soundly held at Rosehill last time.

“She is a real trier and even though she ran last at Rosehill, Jess (Taylor) came back and was really happy with her because she just couldn’t sprint with them when they went,” Bateup said.

“Jess said she is probably not a Saturday city horse at the moment but felt a race like this one would suit her perfectly. She gets in with no weight and the way she has worked I think she will be in the finish.”

Bateup admits her other Kembla runner Uno That is a work in progress as he steps out to 1400m in the Tullimbar maiden Plate: “He is a four-year-old but he is still learning about it,” Bateup said.

“Every run you see the improvement and last time at Goulburn he beat the rest easily but ran into an odds-on favourite of Snowdens. I think he will get a win or two this prep, especially as he gets up in trip, and hopefully the first one will be on Saturday.”
