Gary Harley's Last Word On Wyong (Tuesday)

By Gary Harley

Punters who backed The Towers when he threw a race away in his only start should back up at Wyong on Tuesday. On the back of an easy Warwick Farm trial win The Towers was a heavily backed favourite on debut at Muswellbrook on May 4. He was travelling like a winner approaching the home turn when he ran to the outside fence and was restrained out of the race. Ordered to trial by Stewards, The Towers looked good in a recent Randwick trial coming from way back to finish a close second. The gelding will carry 55.5kg after the claim for Jean Van Overmeire.

RACE 1 (TOUKLEY GOLF CLUB 3YO MAIDEN, 1350M): The Towers ($4.40 on TAB fixed odds) is talented and he comes off the back of a strong trial performance at Randwick. He threw the race away when in a winning position in his only start and he is well weighted after the claim. Rakhish ($1.60 favourite) was nailed on the line in his only start at Hawkesbury in December and he has had two trials. Dancing Phryne ($6.50) has been placed in her two starts this prep.
SELECTIONS: 2 THE TOWERS, 1 RAKHISH, 5 DANCING PHRYNE

RACE 2 (WYONG RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB GROUP MAIDEN, 2100M): I Arize ($2.40 fav) has been placed in three of his four starts and this is a winnable race. He ran on well when placed over 1600m at Newcastle last start. Whitney’s Star ($4) is racing well with recent 1600m placings at Gosford and Wyong. She races on the speed. Augusta In April ($3.20) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 3 I ARIZE, 9 WHITNEY’S STAR, 2 AUGUSTA IN APRIL

RACE 3 (THE DOYLO MAIDEN PLATE, 1000M): Humboldt ($3.50) was disappointing in two starts in Victoria but in the Godolphin Sydney stable now he showed good speed to win a recent Warwick Farm trial. Mandalong Nicko ($2.90 fav) is honest and has been placed at both starts. Silly Sally ($5) is making her debut and won a Hawkesbury trial last year.
SELECTIONS: 2 HUMBOLDT, 4 MANDALONG NICKO, 9 SILLY SALLY

RACE 4 (MUNMORAH UNITED BOWLING CLUB 2YO MAIDEN, 1300M): Whiteley ($2.60 fav) was run down on the post first-up at Warwick Farm on May 9. He drops sharply in class and he only has to produce his last performance to win. Grand Challenge ($9) gets back but runs on strong. Helaku ($5.50) comes from the powerful Snowden camp and has been trialling well enough to be a threat here.
SELECTIONS: 9 WHITELEY, 2 GRAND CHALLENGE, 3 HELAKU

RACE 5 (NORAH HEAD SPORTIES CLASS 4, 1600M): I Am Awesome ($2.90) steps up in class after an impressive first-up win at Muswellbrook on May 4. She was slowly away and came from well back to win on the post. The mare will appreciate the longer trip and Avdulla has the mount. Sleepwalker ($4.80) can improve on his last start failure. Strome ($2.40 fav) has won three of her past four starts and looks nicely placed in this.
SELECTIONS: 6 I AM AWESOME, 1 SLEEPWALKER, 2 STROME

RACE 6 (CLUB TOUKLEY RSL CLASS 1, 1600M): Play ($5.50) failed to run the longer trip at Newcastle last start and she will appreciate the mile around Wyong. The filly won well at Newcastle first-up and she was unlucky when placed on that track two starts back. Uncle Rodriguez ($3.80) was stiff when runner-up on this track last start after his rider lost an iron at the 100 metres. Beauty Kanas ($4.80) is never far away.
SELECTIONS: 7 PLAY, 1 UNCLE RODRIGUEZ, 3 BEAUTY KANAS

RACE 7 (WYONG GOLF CLUB BENCHMARK 68, 1350M): Tennessee Hussy ($4.20) has a good chance after a strong finishing fourth at Warwick Farm on May 16. The mare races well on this track and she will be at her top third-up. Your Witness ($3.70 fav) was good when placed first-up at Newcastle and he has a good second-up record. Bochy ($6) has a stack of ability and look for a bold first-up run.
SELECTIONS: 9 TENNESSEE HUSSY, 8 YOUR WITNESS, 4 BOCHY

RACE 8 (THE ENTRANCE LEAGUES CLUB CLASS 1, 1200M): Oxford Angel ($3 fav) has a tricky draw but she is smart. She raced clear in the straight to win first-up on this track recently and she has the speed to overcome the wide draw. Military Academy’s ($6) Hawkesbury form is first class and he is a big threat from the rails barrier. Katgully Red ($7) had no luck when a close third at Scone during the Carnival.
SELECTIONS: 9 OXFORD ANGEL, 3 MILITARY ACADEMY, 10 KATGULLY RED
