A mile has proven just beyond the powers of Siren’s Fury in the past but trainer Jason Coyle is prepared to take the gamble that she’s now ready for it.

There’s nothing like an overdue win to boost the confidence of both horse and trainer and Coyle has taken a detour following the mare’s Randwick win earlier this month.

“Two weeks ago I was probably hesitant to go to 1600m but she has had form over a mile,’’ he said.

“The run over 1500m at Rosehill was good behind Sedanzer, so this far into her preparation I think it is worth trying in the same grade.’’

Siren’s Fury rises 2kg on her last start win in for the Honourable James Caird (Tim) Bruxner Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Her previous attempts at a mile and beyond have resulted in a third at Doomben and unplaced runs in the Group 3 Classic at Kembla Grange and an 1800m three-year-old event at Rosehill last May.

Punters Intel data revealed Siren’s Fury ran the second fastest last 600m (35.21) in her win two weeks ago with runner-up, and rival again on Saturday, Queen Misty recording 35.05.

“Her last couple at Randwick have been terrific, it's a track she appreciates so we opted to go to a mares mile,’’ Coyle said.

“She's drawn soft, which is nice, she should get a similar run to last start and if she's as strong over the 1600m you'd think she will be a chance.’’

Siren’s Fury is a $5 equal favourite with TAB, one of three Coyle charges punters have zeroed in on – the others being Memes ($2.70) and Insensata ($10 into $7.50).

The returning Memes could earn a shot at the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) in two weeks if she’s impressive in the Summer Sprint (1000m) on Saturday.

The four-year-old won five races last preparation and Coyle sees the race as a nice starting point with 51.5kg and two trials without blinkers under her belt.

“I'm really happy with the way she's come back into work,’’ he said.

“Obviously she starts at a different level to last preparation. It's hard to do the same as she did last prep but now she just has to handle racing at that higher level.

“If she comes out and performs well it's definitely worth a (Expressway) nomination. As long as she comes back racing well there are plenty of options.’’

Insensata is also first-up and Coyle is more on the fence than punters, it seems, about her chances in the Rebecca Louise Handicap (1200m).

The four-year-old was unlucky fresh in her last preparation and though he’s expecting a nice return he stopped short of being bullish.

“I've been happy with both trials this time in, she's a mare that carries a bit of condition so expect the run will only improve her,’’ he said.

Here are some comments from Coyle regarding his other Randwick runners:

River Bird (Race 1): “If it was a race with a bit of experience in it I'd probably go back to the trials. But given there's only two raced horses I'm happy to test her at that level given we are on the doorstep to a carnival.’’

Valentino Rossa (race 4): “He was moderate last start, back to a mile and three weeks between runs hopefully gets him back to the form he showed in the Goulburn Cup.’’

More Energy (Race 6): “I thought he was super second-up. For a couple of strides I thought we were going pull it off at 50/1. His best form is at ten furlongs, there's three 2000m races over the next six weeks and we'll try to win one of them.’’
